The presentation was billed as a full gameplay deep dive with a look at the studio’s plans for the game’s first year. It was scheduled for launch day; Wildlight Entertainment later announced that Highguard’s service would end permanently on March 12, 2026.
When was the Highguard gameplay showcase?
Highguard’s official account announced the showcase on January 23, 2026, setting it for Monday, January 26, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. The announcement followed the game’s reveal at The Game Awards in December 2025, a period after which public communication had been sparse, according to Insider Gaming’s January 23 report.
This was not a date for a future event: the showcase was scheduled for the same day Highguard launched. The announcement presented it as an in-depth studio look, promising a full gameplay deep dive, year-one plans, and more.
What was Highguard, and what did the showcase promise?
Highguard launched on January 26, 2026, as a free-to-play PvP raid shooter for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms. The showcase was meant to give players a more substantial view of the game at release, including its gameplay and the studio’s plans for its first year. Gematsu’s coverage of the shutdown announcement identifies the launch date and platforms; Xbox Wire’s launch-day preview discussed the game’s Wardens, bases, weapons, and items.

The promise of year-one plans described Wildlight’s intended outlook at launch. It should not be read as evidence that those plans were completed or that the game remained in service for a year.

On March 3, 2026, Wildlight Entertainment announced that Highguard would permanently shut down on March 12. The studio said it had not built a sustainable player base. Its announcement reported more than two million players since launch; that is Wildlight’s figure, as reported by Game Developer and PC Gamer, not an independently audited count.
The announced service-end date has passed. The cited reports describe the planned closure, but do not independently establish server status after March 12. They also do not confirm whether a recording of the showcase remains available.
