Why Malevelon Creek mattered
Malevelon Creek had become a focal point of the game’s Automaton war before the April order. According to Destructoid’s contemporaneous account, the planet fell under Automaton control in late February, but some players continued fighting there over the following month. Some players nicknamed it “Space Vietnam”; that was community slang, not an official name.

The earlier campaign also carried frustration: the preceding phase’s effort to capture Tibit had failed. Against that backdrop, the Creek’s fall was more than a change of objective. It represented a defeat players had already spent weeks contesting.
The April 1 order turned the story around
On the morning of April 1, 2024, Arrowhead issued a Major Order to liberate Malevelon Creek as part of Operation Swift Disassembly. The fictional in-game briefing declared, “The time has come to take it back.”

Destructoid reported that players liberated the planet roughly four hours after the order appeared. That is the publication’s contemporaneous estimate of the interval, not an official game-telemetry statistic. The contrast is what made the moment feel like redemption: after the planet’s earlier fall and weeks of fighting, the community completed the new, explicit objective within hours.

A community-archived record of the Major Order says an in-game dispatch designated April 3 as Malevelon Creek Memorial Day and awarded players the Fallen Hero’s Vengeance cape. These were in-game commemorations; the cape was a virtual reward, not physical merchandise. The archived record does not establish that the cape can still be obtained.
