It sent players to the Automaton homeworld to halt Cyborg production, disrupt enemy defenses, and fight through fortified factory cities. Its launch campaign is now part of the game’s history, not proof that Cyberstan remains the active front.
What was the Cyberstan update?
Machinery of Oppression was the name of Helldivers 2’s Cyberstan update, announced as live on February 10, 2026. The PlayStation announcement and Xbox Wire coverage both identify the release and its focus on the Cyborgs’ return. PlayStation’s launch announcement says the Automatons had stolen the Star of Peace schematics, setting up the renewed conflict on Cyberstan, described as the bot homeworld.

The operation framed Cyberstan as an industrial battlefield: Helldivers had to break into large, heavily defended factory cities rather than simply clear isolated enemy positions. In Arrowhead’s launch announcement, community manager Katherine Baskin summarized the order: “The Helldivers have been ordered to take on the dark and grim streets of Cyberstan’s cities and stop this collusion of bots and Cyborgs in its tracks!”
What was the Battle for Cyberstan campaign asking players to do?
Primary objectives
The campaign’s central goals were to stop the production of more Cyborgs and compromise Automaton defenses. Those strategic aims gave the city assaults a broader purpose: dismantle the industrial capacity supporting the enemy rather than treating every fight as an isolated victory.

City-by-city operations
Players chose which Cyberstan cities to attack. Within them, they could demolish mega factories building by building and tear down statues associated with the Cyborg regime. Those were additional city-clearing actions, distinct from the campaign’s primary objectives.
Finite reinforcements
The campaign used a Galactic Reinforcement Counter to track the finite number of Helldivers available for deployment. Deaths counted toward its loss condition, making survival a community-wide campaign stake rather than merely a concern for an individual squad. The counter was a game mechanic; it should not be confused with a verified real-world casualty figure.
What new enemies are in the Cyberstan update?
The update highlighted three enemy types with different battlefield jobs. The distinctions below reflect the roles described by Arrowhead and Xbox Wire, not a measured ranking of which enemy is strongest.
Rank #2
- Mediterranean Horror: Explore the forsaken capital of an awe-inspiring archipelago. Do not let yourself be fooled by the gentle sea breeze, the Mediterranean vistas or the comforting summer sun. Since the Devil's Fevers pandemic ravaged the city, it was abandoned, and now only horrific nightmares await there.
- Survive your Nemesis: Someone is relentlessly hunting you. Suffer and agonize while you try to run away from the encounters with this strange stalker obsessed with you.
- Intense Challenges: Solve environmental riddles, physics puzzles and other similar challenges in an interconnected vertical world. Even while being chased and hunted.
- Accessibility and Photomode: Tweak more than 20 Accessibility settings to create a tailored experience for you. Use the Photomode to make perfect shots and unlock many secrets using it.
| Enemy | Combat distance | Battlefield function | Threat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agitator | Ranged | Armored field commander able to take control of enemy squads and make tactical decisions | Plasma weaponry and coordinated forces |
| Cyborg Radical | Close | Rushes Helldivers to force engagements at short range | Cybernetic and biological enhancements support its aggressive approach |
| Vox Engine | Ranged | Piloted war machine driven by a high-ranking Cyborg officer | Dual laser cannons, rockets, and laser gatlings; also broadcasts Cyborg propaganda |
The Agitator’s combination of armor and squad control makes it a command threat, while Radicals pressure players by closing distance. The Vox Engine adds heavy ranged firepower in a piloted platform. Arrowhead’s official Helldivers 2 page and launch coverage describe these enemy roles and equipment.
What equipment and purchases came with the update?
Bastion Tank
The Bastion Tank was highlighted as new hardware for the Cyberstan fight. Arrowhead’s 6.0.1 notes characterize it as a new vehicle requiring squad coordination, so it is best understood as group equipment rather than an individual upgrade.
Warbond and Superstore content
Siegebreakers Warbond content and the War Horse set in the Superstore were associated with the update. These are optional in-game purchases, separate from the base game and the update’s campaign. The official materials use both “Siege Breakers” in the launch coverage and “Siegebreakers” in the 6.0.1 notes; check the in-game store for current naming, availability, and cost rather than assuming launch-era listings remain available.

For the full release framing, see Xbox Wire’s Machinery of Oppression coverage. Arrowhead’s 6.0.1 patch notes also list the Bastion Tank, Warbond, and Superstore set.
Is the Cyberstan offensive still the current Helldivers 2 campaign?
Not necessarily. Arrowhead’s August 30, 2026 notes show how the in-game chronology had moved on: the 6.0.1 notes still urged players toward Cyberstan, while the official Machinery of Oppression 6.1.0 notes described players recovering from the Automatons on Cyberstan and shifted the action to an Illuminate operation.

That establishes that the original offensive had advanced beyond its launch framing; it does not establish the live Galactic War state at any later date. Treat “the update is here” as the February 2026 launch announcement, not as a guarantee that Cyberstan is currently an active objective.
