A Blizzard forum support representative called it a known game/app bug in January 2022, but the available sources do not establish a current root cause or a universal fix. Try checking the game language first; if that does not help, launching the installed game executable directly is a commonly reported workaround with mixed results.
What the 137 MB launch loop means
Players describe Battle.net repeatedly downloading or preparing about 137 MB of game data when starting Heroes of the Storm. Some also report a brief update after closing the game. The figure is a user-reported download size, not a Blizzard-published statistic or a measured average.
In a January 2022 technical-support thread, Blizzard forum support representative Joynueer described the behavior as a known game/app bug, said the team was looking into a fix, and noted it should not prevent players from playing. That is a historical acknowledgement, not confirmation of the bug’s present cause, status, or resolution. A German-language support response in November 2021 also said the issue was being investigated and no solution was then available.
Forum discussion continued as recently as August 29, 2026, but that shows continued reports in the thread—not how common the issue is among all players. The cited sources do not provide a technical diagnosis or a current official fix.

What to try, in order
1. Check the game’s language package
If the language selected in Battle.net does not match the language you intend to use, check the game’s language settings and allow Battle.net to install the intended language package. One player reported on August 29, 2026, that explicitly installing the English package stopped the repeated download. This is an individual report, not a confirmed general fix, and may only help when language or package selection is relevant to the installation.
2. Launch the game executable directly
- Open the Heroes of the Storm installation folder. Its location depends on where you installed the game;
C:Program Files (x86)Heroes of the StormSupport64is one example, not a guaranteed path. - Open the
Support64folder. - Run
HeroesSwitcher_x64.exe.
This bypasses the Battle.net launcher and is a recurring player-reported workaround, but results vary. Some players say they must sign in again; others report launch or version-related problems. If it does not work reliably for your installation, return to launching through Battle.net.

3. Try ordinary launcher repair steps if needed
Forum participants have mentioned clearing the Battle.net cache, locating or reassigning the installed game in the launcher, using Scan and Repair, and checking update settings. These are general troubleshooting options, not proven cures for this loop; players also report that cache and permissions changes did not reliably stop it. Change one thing at a time so you can tell whether it affects the behavior.

The best-supported description is a recurring Battle.net/Heroes of the Storm update-loop bug reported by players and historically acknowledged by forum support. The available reports do not establish that a corrupted cache, Windows permissions, a language mismatch, or a particular patch is the definitive cause. Nor do they confirm that the issue is currently under investigation or resolved.

The documented troubleshooting is software-based. The cited evidence gives no reason to buy hardware or a paid utility to address this launch symptom.
