Keep Totoki’s Sony Group and SIE roles distinct
Totoki’s SIE roles changed over time while he also held Sony Group responsibilities: he became SIE Chairman in October 2023, added the Interim CEO role on April 1, 2024, returned to the Chairman title on June 1, and left the SIE chairmanship on April 1, 2025. He then became Sony Group President and CEO. In September 2023, he described SIE as “an essential part of Sony Group’s entire business portfolio.”
For the succession question, the key distinction is that Totoki temporarily led SIE as Interim CEO; Nishino became SIE President and CEO in 2025. Totoki’s subsequent Sony Group leadership is a separate role.
