The “five or six years” estimate that prompted PS6-era predictions came from a 2025 report; it was not a launch schedule. Since then, Sony has exited the project and Kojima Productions has announced that development is continuing with Xbox, leaving the final platform list unresolved.
Why the PS6-exclusive claim does not hold
The claim originated with a May 2025 report that Kojima told French magazine Le Film Français Physint would “take me another five or six years.” Push Square used that estimate to infer a release around 2030 or later and connect the game to the next PlayStation generation. That was an outlet’s projection, not an announced date or a platform confirmation. Push Square’s 2025 report distinguishes Kojima’s estimate from its own PS6-era inference.
The premise has also been overtaken by a change in the project’s publishing relationship. In September 2026, Kojima Productions said development would continue with Xbox; coverage identified Xbox Game Studios as the new publisher. Kojima has not said whether the game will also come to PlayStation. When asked, he said, “I don’t know the answer to that – that would be a question for Xbox.” Push Square reported his response.
What is confirmed about platforms
| Question | What is established |
|---|---|
| Is Physint a PS6 exclusive? | No such exclusivity has been confirmed. The PS6 connection was an inference from the older estimate and the original PlayStation arrangement. |
| Is Xbox involved? | Yes. Kojima Productions announced in September 2026 that development would continue with Xbox; Xbox Game Studios was identified as the new publisher. |
| Will it come to PlayStation? | Unknown. Kojima said he did not know and referred the question to Xbox. |
| Is it Xbox-only? | Not established. A final platform list has not been announced. |
The studio’s announcement and the reported publisher change are covered by Push Square. In its September 2026 coverage, The Washington Post quoted Kojima Productions saying development “continues to move forward with Xbox” and reported that the studio disputed speculation about the circumstances of Sony’s exit. The Washington Post’s interview says Kojima did not give a reason for Sony’s decision, so explanations for the split should not be treated as confirmed.

Is there a release date or window?
No release date or launch window is confirmed in the available statements. The “five or six years” figure was Kojima’s estimate as reported in May 2025, not a dated commitment. Calling Physint a 2030 release—or saying it cannot arrive before 2030—turns that older estimate into a certainty it does not provide.

In a September 2026 interview with The Washington Post, Kojima said the concept and plot were written, storyboards existed, and the studio had begun 3D models and actor scans. He was testing engines but had not chosen one. Those are development milestones, not evidence of a scheduled launch. The interview describes that status.

Coverage in October 2026 added an important distinction: although the story was written, the script remained unfinished. Kojima also said he wanted Physint to differ from Metal Gear, with new ideas and a different kind of spy action. GamesRadar+ reported those comments. An established premise and early asset work do not settle the game’s release timing or platforms.
