Sunday became a playable character in Honkai: Star Rail with Version 2.7, released December 4, 2024. HoYoverse introduced him as a five-star Imaginary character on the Path of Harmony, and community posts show players looking forward to his arrival and speculating about his kit.
When Sunday became playable
HoYoverse’s Version 2.7 update details list Sunday as a new five-star character. The version released on December 4, 2024, according to the official Version 2.7 announcement. The update’s character details identify Sunday as Imaginary and aligned with the Path of Harmony.
What Sunday’s launch kit does
HoYoverse described Sunday as a support character. His launch-kit functions include advancing an ally and that ally’s summon so they can act, restoring a percentage of a designated ally’s Energy, and increasing damage-related combat stats.
These details explain why players focused on what his kit might offer: action advancement, Energy support, and buffs are distinct forms of team utility. They describe his launch kit, not a claim about his current ranking or how he performs against other characters.

How players showed their anticipation
Individual community posts capture the excitement around Sunday’s arrival. A HoYoLAB post was titled “Sunday is upon thee!!!” (HoYoLAB community post). Earlier, a Reddit discussion asked, “Who and what (in terms of the kit) are you the most excited to see?” as players anticipated the first new Version 2.7 character’s drip marketing (r/HonkaiStarRail discussion).
Those posts are visible examples of fan enthusiasm and curiosity, not a representative survey. They show that some players were eager to see Sunday and learn what he could do; they do not establish how widely that reaction was shared.
