Is Hollow Knight on Nintendo Switch 2 yet?
Yes. Hollow Knight – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition released on 5 February 2026. Team Cherry announced that the game is available on Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo UK’s product listing identifies the Switch 2 system and gives the same release date.
What is improved in the Switch 2 edition?
Team Cherry describes the Switch 2 edition as having higher resolutions, higher frame rates and additional effects compared with the original release. The announcement gives no numerical resolution or frame-rate target, so there are no official figures here to use for a performance comparison.
The studio also says updates are live on existing platforms, bringing “many refinements and tweaks” and under-the-hood improvements carried over from Hollow Knight: Silksong. It separately lists full 21:9 and 16:10 aspect-ratio support for PC players; those PC-specific additions should not be mistaken for Switch 2 features.

Is the Switch 2 upgrade free for Switch owners?
Team Cherry says that all Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox players can receive the upgrade for free. The announcement does not spell out every account, store or regional eligibility case. If the upgrade is not visible for an account that owns the original game, check the relevant platform store and confirm that the account and game region match.
What game is included?
This is the original Hollow Knight, not Hollow Knight: Silksong. Nintendo describes it as a 2D action adventure set in the interconnected world of Hallownest, where players explore caverns, ancient cities and wastes, fight creatures, find abilities and charms, and uncover secrets. Nintendo’s listing advertises over 140 enemies and 30 bosses. These are figures in the product description, not new measurements reported for the Switch 2 edition. Christopher Larkin is credited for the score.
What should you know before downloading?
Nintendo UK lists a 1.3 GB download size. That is the figure shown on the UK storefront listing, not a guaranteed size in every region or after later updates. The listing specifies single-system play for one player and support for handheld, tabletop and TV modes.
