HORI’s Wireless HORIPAD for Steam, model HPC-055U, was reported as arriving in the U.S. on December 16, 2024, for $60. That date is historical: HORI’s current U.S. product listing shows the controller at $59.99. It is a HORI gamepad designed for Steam and Steam Deck, with support developed in collaboration with Valve—not a controller made by Valve.
What the December 16 date means
Engadget reported on November 5, 2024, that the Wireless HORIPAD for Steam would be available in the U.S. on December 16 for $60, with preorders open at the time. The launch date and reported price describe that 2024 announcement, not an upcoming release. HORI’s current U.S. listing identifies the product as model HPC-055U and displays a price of $59.99; its stock field is blank, so the listing does not establish current availability.
HORI calls the gamepad “specifically designed for use on Steam™ for Windows 11/10 and Steam Deck™.” Valve separately confirmed that it worked with HORI so the controller would work well with Steam Input. That software support does not make the controller a Valve product.
How it connects to a PC or Steam Deck
- Bluetooth: HORI says the controller can connect wirelessly to a Windows PC running Steam or a Steam Deck. An included USB-A Bluetooth receiver is another wireless connection option.
- USB cable: The included cable supports wired play. HORI specifies that XInput mode is compatible only over a wired connection.

Inputs, controls, and missing features
The HORIPAD combines standard gamepad controls with features aimed at Steam use. HORI lists gyro sensors, capacitive-touch thumbsticks, two programmable rear buttons, two function buttons, and analog/digital triggers. Dedicated Steam menu buttons are also included.
It does not have vibration, a trackpad, or a headset jack, according to HORI. Those omissions are especially relevant if you are comparing it with Valve’s original Steam Controller, a distinct 2015 product that has dual trackpads, HD haptics, dual-stage triggers, and configurable controls. The HORIPAD is not a feature-for-feature replacement for that controller.

Battery claim and price
HORI lists up to 12 hours of battery life. That is the manufacturer’s stated figure; it is not an independently tested result. The same U.S. listing currently shows $59.99 for model HPC-055U, while Engadget’s November 5, 2024 launch report gave the then-announced U.S. price as $60.
