You can’t use a phone as a supported source for installing an Xbox 360 game. If you already own the digital game, download it again on the console from the account’s Download History. A USB drive can add Xbox 360 storage, but it does not turn a phone’s game download into an installable Xbox 360 game.
Can you transfer a game from a phone to an Xbox 360?
No supported phone-to-Xbox 360 game-file transfer is identified in Xbox’s instructions. Copying a game or app download from a phone onto a USB drive and plugging it into the console is not a supported installation method. The practical route depends on whether you already own the Xbox 360 game.
Redownload a game you already own
- Connect the Xbox 360 to Xbox services and sign in with the account that purchased the game.
- On the console, open Settings > Account > Download History.
- Find the game in the account’s history and select it to download it again.
Xbox says previously purchased content remains playable and can be redownloaded. The [Xbox 360 download-history guide] provides official instructions.
What changed when the Xbox 360 Store closed?
Xbox stopped new purchases through the Xbox 360 Store on the console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace on July 29, 2024. That closure does not remove the ability to redownload content already purchased on the account.

Some backward-compatible Xbox 360 games remain available to buy on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or Xbox.com, but availability depends on the title. Buying a compatible game on a newer platform is not a way to transfer a phone download onto an Xbox 360. See Xbox Wire’s store-closure announcement for details.
Does USB storage help?
A compatible USB flash drive or Xbox 360 hard drive can provide or manage storage for the console. These are storage options, not installers for game files copied from a phone. Check Xbox’s guides for using a USB flash drive with Xbox 360 and the Xbox 360 hard drive. Compatibility depends on the console and accessory; confirm it for your setup before buying storage.
