To beat Moorwing, watch for its ground-level swoop, close-range diagonal swipes, and blades that travel along the floor; move out of each attack’s path, then look for a safe chance to strike. At 65% health, the fight adds a paired-blade pattern. If you would rather avoid the battle, certain quest progress or an alternate route can get you to Bellhart without fighting it.
Where to find Moorwing
Moorwing guards Greymoor’s east entrance to Bellhart. The Hollow Knight Wiki says that if you skip the encounter, Moorwing can later appear near the Greymoor Bellway. Its attack labels below are wiki labels, not confirmed in-game names. Hollow Knight Wiki: Moorwing
How to handle Moorwing’s attacks
Treat the fight as a pattern-reading encounter: identify where an attack will travel, get clear, and attack only when doing so does not put Hornet back in its path. These are conservative tactical readings of the reported moveset, not frame-perfect guarantees.
Ground swoop
Moorwing swoops along the ground, then rises after it has passed Hornet, according to the wiki. Prioritize getting out of its line of travel; once it is past, assess whether you have room to attack before committing.

Diagonal swipes
At close range, Moorwing uses diagonal swipes. Avoid staying beside it while it is winding into or carrying out these attacks. Create space and wait for the swipes to finish before closing in again.
Floor-traveling blades
Moorwing sends spinning blades along the floor before they lift. Watch their path before jumping back toward the boss: jumping too early or returning before the blades have cleared can put Hornet into their route.

What changes at 65% health
The wiki reports a second-phase change at 65% health, or 390 of Moorwing’s 780 HP: it adds an inverted paired-blade pattern and changes the follow-up blade attacks. Reassess the blade trajectories rather than assuming the first-phase sequence will continue unchanged. These reported mechanics may be affected by later patches.

The ally and quest conditions, as well as the alternate route, are reported by the Hollow Knight Wiki. For the nook tactic, PC Gamer’s Wes Fenlon describes retreating to the nook on the right near the exit, letting Moorwing strike the floor, then attacking downward through it. Patch note on blade damage
The Hollow Knight Wiki’s update history records that version 1.0.28497 (Patch 1) changed Blade Toss damage to 1 instead of 1+1.
