A failed connection does not, by itself, show that Overwatch 2’s servers are down. Work through the checks below to narrow down whether the issue is broader, tied to your device or network, or specific to a platform error such as LC-202.
1. Note the exact error and check for a wider service issue
Write down the full message or error code, your platform, and when the failure happens: at login, while entering a match, or during play. Blizzard recommends searching for a specific error or problem before applying general fixes. Its Overwatch 2 Technical Troubleshooting page says: “Before proceeding with the below troubleshooting categories, search with your specific error message (if available) or problem description to see if your issue has a separate troubleshooting article.”

Check Blizzard’s current service notices when the problem occurs. Availability can change, and this guide cannot establish the live status for your region. If other players are reporting trouble or Blizzard has posted a relevant notice, local changes may not help until service is restored.
2. Restart the game and compare devices and services
Close Overwatch 2 completely and launch it again. If you play on PC, Blizzard’s general troubleshooting guide recommends restarting the computer as an early step; a restart may clear a temporary issue or program conflict.

Use comparisons to narrow the scope, not to assume a cause:
- Try another online game or service on the same device.
- If possible, check whether another device on the same home network can access online services.
- Note whether the issue affects only Overwatch 2, one device, or multiple devices and services.
3. Check the connection and security settings
Blizzard recommends optimizing the internet connection and making sure security software allows the game. Start with reversible checks:

- Pause large downloads or other bandwidth-heavy activity while testing.
- If available, compare your usual Wi-Fi connection with a wired connection. This is a diagnostic test, not a guaranteed fix.
- On PC, check the operating system firewall and any installed security software for rules blocking Overwatch 2 or its launcher. Use the software vendor’s instructions to allow the relevant program rather than turning protection off wholesale.
Blizzard’s general guidance does not make buying a router, cable, or network adapter a prerequisite. Consider equipment only if your checks point to a specific problem with the existing connection or hardware.
4. Read Overwatch 2’s network indicators
Network statistics can help distinguish connectivity symptoms from low frame rate, but they do not identify the cause of a connection problem on their own. Blizzard’s Diagnosing Overwatch Network Problems guide documents these controls:

- PC network statistics: Press Shift+Ctrl+R by default to show the FPS display.
- Console network statistics: Open Options > Video > Show Network Stats.
- PC network graph: Press Shift+Ctrl+N by default to toggle it.
Latency figures relate to connectivity; frame rate is affected by computer performance. Blizzard also describes a warning icon that indicates the client has not heard from the lobby or game server for an extended period and a disconnection is likely. These indicators describe what is happening in the client; they cannot tell you whether the cause is your home network, your internet provider’s route, or the game service.

Blizzard labels LC-202 “Disconnected from Game Server.” Its Overwatch 2 Console Error LC-202 page advises checking network configuration for firewall, router, or port-setting issues and optimizing the connection when using wireless. If those steps do not resolve the error, Blizzard directs players to their console manufacturer’s support.

The linked page is in Italian. Platform menus and instructions can vary, so consult the support page for your locale and console before changing network settings. Do not assume that every console connection failure is LC-202.
6. Escalate with details that help isolate the problem
If the connection still fails, gather the information that shows the pattern before contacting support:
- The exact error message or code and when it appears.
- Your platform and region.
- Whether other games or online services work on the same device.
- Whether other devices on your network are affected.
- Whether you use Wi-Fi or a wired connection, and which troubleshooting steps you have tried.
For console troubleshooting beyond Blizzard’s LC-202 guidance, contact the console manufacturer. If the evidence points to an internet-provider or network-route issue, your provider may be able to investigate; do not treat a single disconnection as proof of where the fault lies.
