The Epic Games Store giveaway for Hogwarts Legacy ended on December 18, 2025. It is not currently free through that promotion, and Epic does not allow players to claim a missed free game retroactively. If you claimed it before the deadline but hit an account download-limit error, Epic’s troubleshooting steps may help; they cannot reopen an expired offer.
Is Hogwarts Legacy still free on the Epic Games Store?
No. The promotion covered by the December 2025 reports ended December 18, 2025, according to Windows Central’s coverage of the giveaway. Epic’s Free Games page is the place to check current offers; the catalog snapshot available on October 7, 2026 showed Trackmania Starter Access, not Hogwarts Legacy.

Epic says a free game must be claimed during the promotion’s stated period. If you missed the deadline, you cannot add that expired offer to your library afterward. You can watch Epic’s Free Games page for future promotions, but there is no guarantee this game will be offered again.
What to do if you hit a free-game download-limit error
These steps apply to the specific Epic message, “Your account is unable to download any more free games at this time.” Epic recommends trying them in this order:

- Turn off your VPN if you are using one, then try claiming the game again.
- Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data and retry.
- Wait at least 24 hours before making another attempt if the problem remains. Epic’s support guidance says: “If you still can’t claim the free game, wait at least 24 hours and then try to claim the free game again.”
These measures are not a guaranteed fix for every checkout, account, device, or network error. If the offer is still active and the error persists, consult Epic’s download-limit troubleshooting page or contact Epic Support. If the promotion has expired, troubleshooting will not restore it: Epic’s guidance for missed free-game promotions says they cannot be claimed after their offer period.

Epic’s public status page showed the Epic Games Store and Ecommerce as operational in its October 7, 2026 snapshot. That dated status does not rule out a later service disruption or an issue specific to your account, device, or network. Check Epic’s status page when troubleshooting a problem happening now.

During the 2025 giveaway, some players reported that the game appeared unavailable or that redemption failed. Windows Central attributed the trouble to temporary traffic pressure, but that was the outlet’s explanation—not a confirmed diagnosis from Epic.
