What you need for a second Xbox account
In everyday use, an “Xbox account” means an Xbox identity connected to a Microsoft account. A genuinely separate identity needs its own Microsoft account. You can use an email address that has not been used for a Microsoft account, or create a new Outlook.com address during sign-up. [Microsoft account and Xbox]

Option 1: Create the account online, then add it to Xbox
- Open Microsoft’s account creation page: Create a Microsoft account.
- Choose an email address not already used for a Microsoft account, or select the option to create a new Outlook.com address. Follow the prompts to finish account setup.
- On your Xbox, open the guide, select Sign in, then choose Add new.
- Enter the new Microsoft account’s sign-in details and follow the on-screen prompts.
Microsoft documents the console sign-in path in its child-account instructions; the same basic sign-in flow applies when adding another Microsoft account, though menu wording can vary by console generation or software update. [Xbox child account instructions]

Option 2: Start from Xbox family settings
If you are adding a child to a family group, you can start from the Xbox family-add flow. Microsoft’s instructions describe inviting a family member from the console; the invitee can choose Get a new account if they need to create one. If the new account is for a child

If account creation or sign-in does not work
- The email is unavailable: Choose another address or create a new Outlook.com address. An address used for a Microsoft account cannot be reused, including after the earlier account is closed. [Microsoft account creation instructions]

What a second account does not do
Creating a second account gives you a separate sign-in identity. The available setup instructions do not establish that purchases, achievements, subscriptions, or gamer identity transfer from your first account, so do not treat account creation as a way to move those items.
