What the insider predicted
On June 6, 2025, Insider Gaming reported a prediction from NateTheHate. He said the game would have a presence at either the Summer Game Fest main showcase or the Xbox Showcase, and that it “will release before the Summer of 2025 concludes.” This was an insider’s prediction, not a release date announced by Team Cherry.
When Silksong actually released
Team Cherry announced the date on August 21, 2025, writing, “On September 4, ascend to the peak of a haunted kingdom in Hollow Knight: Silksong!” The studio said it would be available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, GOG, and Humble Bundle, with day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass. Did September 4 count as before summer ended?
It depends on the calendar convention. Meteorological summer in the Northern Hemisphere runs from June through August, so September 4 came after it. Astronomical summer lasts until the September equinox, so September 4 came before its end. The original report did not specify which definition it meant; the date fell within astronomical summer but not meteorological summer.
