How Do You Delete Files in CurseForge? Mods, Uploads, and More

CurseForge file removal depends on whether you mean a game mod, creator upload, the app, or an account. Follow the right steps and avoid unwanted side effects.

How you delete files in CurseForge depends on what you mean: removing a mod from a game, removing a file you uploaded to a project, or uninstalling the CurseForge app are separate tasks. For a Hytale mod installed through the app, open its page, open the menu, and select Delete Mod. For a manually installed mod, delete its file from the game’s mod folder. If you are removing a creator-uploaded file, archive it first unless you specifically need permanent deletion.

First, identify which file you want to remove

  • A game mod or addon: Remove it through the app when the game’s instructions provide that option, or delete the relevant file from the game’s mod folder if you installed it manually.
  • A file you uploaded to a project: Manage it in the project’s Files area in the Author Dashboard. Archiving is usually safer than deletion.
  • The CurseForge app: Uninstalling the app is separate from removing mods; installed content remains in place.
  • Your account or an entire project: These have separate support and project-management procedures, described below.

Remove an installed mod or addon

Hytale mod installed through CurseForge

  1. Open the mod’s page in the CurseForge app.
  2. Open the mod’s menu and select Delete Mod.
  3. If the mod still appears in the app, scan the Hytale mods folder from the app.

For details, see CurseForge’s Hytale mod removal instructions.

Hytale mod installed manually

  1. In the Hytale section of the CurseForge app, open the menu and locate the game’s mod folder.
  2. Delete the mod file from that folder.
  3. If the app still lists the mod, scan the folder in the app.

The Sims 4 mods and custom content

CurseForge documents Ctrl+A in the app followed by Delete as a way to remove all installed mods and custom content. This is a bulk action, not a shortcut for deleting one item. CurseForge warns that it also deletes saved Sims and buildings stored in the library/gallery, though not those in the game itself. Read its Sims 4 bulk-removal instructions before using it.

Alternatively, remove the files directly from the game’s Mods or Tray folder, then rescan the folders in the app. The Sims 4 getting-started guide notes that the app can detect non-CurseForge mods but cannot manage them.

Other games or multiple selected mods

There is no single documented removal path for every game. For an app-installed mod, check its page and menu for the option supported by that game. For a manually installed mod, remove the appropriate file from the game’s mod folder. CurseForge documents Ctrl-click and Shift-click to select multiple addons, and Ctrl+A to select all mods; actions apply to the selection. These selection shortcuts do not establish a universal deletion procedure for every game. See the CurseForge app guide.

Fix a “Failed to delete addon(s)” error

CurseForge recommends trying these steps for a failed deletion:

  1. Restart the CurseForge app.
  2. Repair the affected folder’s permissions.
  3. Make sure the game is closed; check Task Manager if needed.
  4. Restart the computer.

For certain I/O errors, the support guide recommends manually deleting and reinstalling the affected mod or addon and clearing %temp%CF. If the error remains, contact CurseForge support and include the app logs.

Remove a file you uploaded to a project

For creator-uploaded files, archiving and deleting have different effects. CurseForge’s guidance says, “In most cases Archiving is the better option.”

  1. Open the project in the Author Dashboard and select its Files tab.
  2. Use the controls on the file’s row to archive it. Archiving removes the file from public view and prevents standalone downloads, but content packs or other mods that depend on it may still be able to download it. The file owner can restore an archived file.
  3. Delete the file only if archiving does not meet your needs. CurseForge describes deletion as available after archiving. Deleted files are no longer accessible to dependent files, which can break projects such as Minecraft modpacks; restoring a deleted file requires help from a site administrator.

See CurseForge’s file and project guidance and its instructions for archiving or deleting files.

If you meant the CurseForge app, account, or project

Uninstall the app

Use the operating-system-specific steps in CurseForge’s uninstall guide. Uninstalling the app does not remove installed mods or other game content; cleaning up app data is a separate, optional step.

Delete your account

Submit a support ticket from the email address associated with your account. Include your CurseForge username and a screenshot showing that you are logged in to Account Settings or the Authors Dashboard. The account-deletion instructions explain the request.

Delete a project

Open the project page, choose Manage Project, select Delete Project, and confirm. This removes an entire project, not just one uploaded file; see CurseForge’s project-deletion instructions.
