To check for funds already added to Steam, sign in and look for your Steam Wallet balance in the upper-right corner beside your profile name. That balance belongs to your account, not to a specific physical card. Steam’s public instructions do not provide a separate anonymous balance checker for an unredeemed card: to add its value, redeem its unique code to the account you are signed into.
Check your Steam Wallet balance
- Sign in to the Steam account where you expect the gift-card funds to be.
- Look in the upper-right corner beside your profile name for the Steam Wallet balance. Steam describes this as the way to view the balance on your account: Steam Wallet Gift Cards.
If the funds are not there, confirm that you are signed into the account that received them. To check whether a previous redemption or related transaction occurred, open your purchase history.

Check an unredeemed card
Steam’s documented way to apply an unredeemed card is to enter its unique Wallet code on the Redeem a Steam Gift Card or Wallet Code page and continue. Successful redemption adds the value to the Wallet of the account you are signed into. Steam does not document a separate public lookup that reveals an unredeemed card’s remaining value without redeeming it.
If the code does not work
- Check similar characters. Steam recommends trying alternatives for characters that can be mistaken for one another: 0 and O, 1 and I, B and 8, and G and 6.
- Allow for retailer activation. A retailer may take several hours after purchase to complete activation. If the code still fails after several hours, contact Steam Support with a clear photo or scan of the entire back of the card and the matching retail receipt.
- For a code printed on a receipt, contact the retailer. Steam says it cannot help with codes printed directly on receipts.
- For a damaged or unreadable card, contact Steam Support. Provide a clear, unedited image or scan of the entire back of the card, as requested in its Wallet code support instructions.
- If you doubt the card is legitimate, ask the retailer.
Keep the code private
Steam Wallet cards can only be redeemed on Steam. Steam warns that someone demanding payment in Steam Wallet gift cards is most likely targeting you in a scam. Do not share the code with an unknown person. If you have already been targeted, keep the card and receipt.

What to know about physical card availability
Steam says it is ending the retail physical Steam Gift Card program: it will not restock cards as retailer stock runs out and expects retail locations to be out of stock by the end of 2026. Existing cards remain usable on Steam, subject to local laws, and Steam says digital Steam Gift Cards continue to be offered. Availability may vary by location and retailer.
