If you need to correct the birth date on an existing child account, PlayStation does not document a direct PS5 setting for editing it. Its documented route is to add the account to a family through Account Management and send a family request. PlayStation currently says this existing-account process is available only in the UK and Ireland, and the parent’s and child’s accounts must be set to the same country or region. If you only want to adjust age-based access or safety settings, use parental controls instead.
First, identify what needs changing

PlayStation’s existing-child-account instructions describe the family-request process for an account created in error or with an incorrect date of birth. The instructions are for account management, not a birth-date field on the PS5 console.
Correct an existing child account in the UK or Ireland
Before starting, the parent or guardian needs their own PlayStation account and the child’s sign-in email address and correct date of birth. Both accounts must be set to the same country or region. PlayStation says this existing-account option is currently available only in the UK and Ireland; if you are elsewhere, contact your local PlayStation Support rather than assuming these steps apply.
- Sign in to Account Management with the parent or guardian account.
- Open Family Management > Add Family Member.
- Confirm that the child already has an account. Complete age verification if prompted.
- Enter the child account’s sign-in email and the child’s date of birth, then continue.
- Review the account-setting changes shown, accept the terms, confirm, and select Send Family Request.
- On the child’s account, open Family Management > Received Family Requests, select the request, and continue. Enter the child’s date of birth if prompted, then choose Join Family.
For a child who does not yet have an account, use PlayStation’s separate family account setup instructions rather than the existing-account request.

Review the effects before sending the request
Joining the family can affect account settings beyond the birth-date issue. PlayStation lists these consequences for the process:
- Previously purchased games and pre-orders remain available in the child’s Game Library, and parental controls then apply to that account.
- Existing payment methods are removed. Purchases require access to the family manager’s wallet; the family manager or guardian manages spending limits.
- Existing subscriptions continue until the current payment cycle ends, but auto-renewal is turned off.
- Privacy settings change to restricted defaults.
- Linked third-party services and authorized apps may be affected depending on the child’s age relative to the country’s digital-consent age. Some Sony group services may no longer be linked.
Check PlayStation’s account-change information if any of these effects could matter before you proceed.

Change parental controls without changing the birth date
On PS5, open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management, then select the child. PlayStation’s controls cover age-appropriate game and app access, communication, user-generated content, playtime, and spending. If the process does not work
- The accounts are in different countries or regions: PlayStation says they cannot be added to the family through this process. Contact support for the country where your account is registered.
- The updated age is not showing in a game: Restart the console and try again, as PlayStation advises in its account guidance.
- You hit another problem adding the account: Contact PlayStation through its Online Assistant.
