You can’t set an arbitrary frame rate for every PS4 game through a console-wide FPS slider. Check the game’s own settings first. If you have a PS4 Pro, you can also try Boost Mode, which may help some older games but does not guarantee a particular frame rate.
Can you change FPS in the PS4 settings?
No. PS4 does not provide a universal system setting for choosing a game’s frames per second. If a game offers performance, graphics, or frame-rate options, those controls are specific to that game. Look in its settings menu or check the game’s documentation.
Whether a game can run at 60 FPS depends on that title’s design and support. A console setting cannot force a game to run at a frame rate its developers did not make available.
How to turn on Boost Mode on PS4 Pro
Boost Mode is the system-level option relevant to frame-rate performance, and it is available on PS4 Pro—not the standard PS4. To toggle it:

- From the PS4 home screen, open Settings.
- Select System.
- Highlight Boost Mode and press X to toggle it on or off.
- Launch the game and see whether it behaves better. If it behaves unexpectedly, turn Boost Mode off, as PlayStation recommends.
PlayStation introduced Boost Mode for older games that were not patched for PS4 Pro. It says the feature may boost frame rate in some games with variable frame rates and may help stabilize titles programmed for 30 Hz or 60 Hz. Those figures describe the games’ operating targets in PlayStation’s explanation, not measured results or guaranteed performance. The feature does not promise a specific FPS or benefit in every game. Why a game may stay at 30 FPS
A game’s frame-rate cap is determined by the game, not by a general PS4 setting. Boost Mode may help some older titles, but it does not guarantee that a game capped at 30 FPS will run at 60 FPS. No universal numerical gain—or specific result for an individual game—is established in PlayStation’s published guidance. Check the title’s own options and documentation for supported modes.

Resolution and refresh rate are not the same as FPS
Changing the console’s display resolution changes the video output, not necessarily how many frames the game renders. PS4 Safe Mode’s Change Resolution option is a troubleshooting tool; after the console restarts, it changes output to 480p. It is not an FPS-boost setting. See PlayStation’s Safe Mode instructions.
Likewise, a TV or monitor’s stated refresh rate does not make a PS4 game render more frames. A 120 Hz display or a different HDMI cable is not, by itself, an FPS fix.
