You can’t choose a specific public server from a list in Fallout 76. Bethesda’s documented way to enter a particular world is to join a friend who is already there. Otherwise, return to the Play menu and choose an available mode; leaving and rejoining is not documented as a way to force a particular public server.
Join a friend to enter a specific world
- Open the game’s social or friends menu and find a friend who is already in the world you want to join.
- Use the on-screen option to join that friend. Bethesda says joining friends already in the desired world is the way to select a specific one; exact menu labels and button prompts can vary by platform.
Bethesda’s support page states, “You are not able to pick the specific world you will play on,” and identifies joining a friend already in that world as the available selection method: Can I pick the world I am playing on in Fallout 76?
Choose a different mode from the Play menu
To move to another type of world, return to the Play menu and select an available mode. Bethesda describes these options as follows: Fallout 76 game modes.
| Mode | Access | Purpose and progress |
|---|---|---|
| Adventure | Available to all players. | The standard story experience. Progress is not separate in the way Public and Custom World progress is. |
| Private Adventure | Can be started by a Fallout 1st member. | A private session; progress is saved when the world shuts down, but the owner must start it again after shutdown. Formerly called Private Worlds. |
| Public World | Available to all players; Fallout 1st is not required. | A rotating world with rules that differ from standard Adventure. Progress is separate from Adventure and tied to that particular Public World. |
| Custom World | Creating one requires an active Fallout 1st membership. | A world with customizable rules. Progress is separate from Adventure. |

Public Worlds
Public World progress is tied to the specific world and remains available only while that world is listed in the Play menu. Bethesda says a character linked to a Public World is deleted after that world is no longer available: Public Worlds FAQ.

Custom Worlds
Progress made in Custom Worlds is separate from Adventure Mode progress. Do not assume a character’s progress in a Custom World carries over to standard Adventure: Fallout Worlds and character progression.
Private Adventure
A Private Adventure instance does not keep running after it shuts down. Its owner must start it again, but Bethesda says character progress is saved when the world shuts down: Private Adventure information.

What switching servers does not guarantee
Bethesda documents joining a friend as the way to target a particular world, but does not promise that leaving a public session and rejoining will place you in a fresh or specific server. If you need to be in a particular instance, use the friend-joining method rather than relying on repeated reconnects.
