The official class page lists two access routes: owning the Elsweyr Chapter or buying the Necromancer Class upgrade in the Crown Store. Once you have access, create a new character and select Necromancer; you cannot convert an existing character by changing its class.
How to unlock and start playing Necromancer
- Check whether your account already has the class. Review your game edition and entitlements on the platform and account where you play. ESO lists the Elsweyr Chapter and the Necromancer Class upgrade in the Crown Store as access routes. Editions and bundles can vary, so verify the current listing for your platform before buying.
- If you do not have access, choose an official route. Get the class through an edition that includes the Elsweyr Chapter, or purchase the Necromancer Class upgrade in the Crown Store. The official Crown Store overview says Crown Store purchases are tied to a megaserver rather than being account-wide; confirm you are purchasing for the megaserver on which you play.
- Create a new character. Start character creation and choose Necromancer as the class. ESO Support explains that playing as a Necromancer requires a new character with that class selection: Can I change my character’s class?
Does ESO Plus include the Necromancer class?
Do not assume it does. ESO’s ESO Plus FAQ says membership grants access to the Necrom DLC pack in the Crown Store. The official class page lists separate access routes for the Necromancer class: the Elsweyr Chapter or the class upgrade. DLC-pack access and class access are distinct entitlements, so check the Necromancer class entitlement on your account rather than relying on the shared name.
Which purchase route should you choose?

The official sources establish these two routes but do not establish a current price. The official ESO purchase page lists six classes with the base game and Necromancer among additional classes, so do not assume the base-game class list includes it: ESO purchase options.
Platform and Crown Store details
Crown purchase options depend on platform. ESO Support says PC/Mac players can buy Crown packs through the ESO or Steam store, while console players use the Xbox or PlayStation store. Crowns bought through the ESO website are for PC/Mac, are applied to the signed-in account, and cannot be traded or gifted. ESO Plus members receive 1,650 Crowns per 30-day membership cycle, according to ESO Support. That figure describes the membership Crown allowance; it does not establish that ESO Plus grants the Necromancer class.
