You can transfer a Hogwarts Legacy save from PS4 to the PS5 version. First move the PS4 saved data to your PS5 through PlayStation Plus cloud storage or a USB drive, then import it in the PS5 game. Cloud storage requires an active PlayStation Plus subscription; USB is the alternative.
Choose a transfer method
| Method | What you need | How it moves the save |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation Plus cloud storage | An active PlayStation Plus subscription | Upload the PS4 save to cloud storage, then download it to PS5 console storage. |
| USB storage | A USB storage device | Copy the PS4 saved data to the drive, then copy it to the PS5. |
Portkey Games documents both routes. Its instructions do not specify a USB brand, capacity, or model. For the USB route, follow PlayStation’s current guidance for transferring saved data to PS5.
Transfer with PlayStation Plus cloud storage

What happens to your save on PS4?
The transfer works from PS4 to PS5, not the other way around. Portkey Games states that a PS5 save cannot be transferred back to PS4. If you return to the PS4 version, you continue from the progress you had there before transferring.
These transfer instructions are from Portkey Games Support; PlayStation’s linked guide covers moving saved data by USB. Menu labels may change with system software updates.
