If you’ve already redeemed a Steam Wallet card, you can’t cash out its balance or transfer it to your bank or another Steam account. Steam Wallet funds are for Steam purchases, and Steam’s trading system is not a way to exchange them for money. If you have an unused code, your best option is to ask the retailer that sold it whether it qualifies for a refund.
First, check what “Steam card” means in your case
A Steam Wallet gift card or code adds funds to a Steam Wallet. Those funds can pay for eligible Steam purchases, but the card is not a general-purpose cash card. The next step depends on whether the code is still unused, whether you bought Wallet funds directly through Steam, or whether you already spent the balance.

If the retail code has not been redeemed
Contact the original retailer and ask whether it will refund the card. Steam says the retailer can scan an activated, unredeemed card and determine whether it is eligible; that is not a guarantee of a refund. Keep the physical card or code and your proof of purchase while you make the request. See Steam’s gift-card guidance.
If you bought Wallet funds directly from Steam
Steam’s narrow refund option is for Wallet funds purchased directly through Steam: submit a request within 14 days of purchase, and only if none of the funds have been used. This is a refund exception, not a general way to cash out a redeemed retail gift card. Check the current terms and submit a request through Steam Wallet support.

Why trading or transferring the balance won’t work
Steam says Wallet funds cannot be withdrawn, gifted, or transferred to another Steam account. Its trading interface also does not support transferring money. Selling an item through Steam therefore does not convert Wallet balance into cash, and Steam does not provide an official cash-out service for redeemed funds. If the purchase you regret was a game
A game bought with Wallet funds is a separate purchase from the gift card or Wallet top-up. Under Steam’s standard game-refund guidance, request within 14 days and with less than two hours of playtime. The purchase-help form offers an eligible refund to the Steam Wallet or the original payment method. Start with Steam’s refund request page; the game policy does not make the original card balance cashable.

Watch out for gift-card payment scams
Steam warns that scammers may pose as officials or demand gift cards for taxes, bail, debts, or prize delivery. A person asking you to pay them with a Steam Wallet card is likely trying to scam you. Steam’s advice is direct: “Never give out a Steam Wallet Gift Card to a person you do not know.” Read Steam’s gift-card scam guidance.
If you have already shared a code with a suspected scammer, keep the card and receipt, report the incident to local police, and contact the FTC if relevant to your location. If the card was activated but the code remains unredeemed, ask the original retailer to check refund eligibility.
