Check the progress and purchase risks first: unlinking can make content inaccessible, and EA does not transfer progress between EA Accounts.
Before you unlink: check the account and what you could lose
First identify the EA Account currently connected to the platform, and make sure you can sign in to it. If the platform is linked to the wrong account, recover that account before trying to switch. EA says it cannot move progress from one EA Account to another; relinking the platform to the account that owns the progress may restore access to progress associated with that account. EA warns that unlinking may remove access to game progress, DLC and expansions, memberships or subscriptions, previous drops and rewards, and in-game purchases. The precise effect depends on the game and platform. If Steam is involved, rewards, points, and items remain with the EA Account to which Steam was first linked; players cannot move games or personas themselves. Read EA’s unlinking guidance before proceeding.
EA recommends linking to an account you plan to keep long term. Do not unlink just to test whether another account works: a switch may be unavailable, and it can leave you without access to content tied to the original account.

How to unlink an EA Account from a platform
- Sign in to the EA Account that is currently linked to the console or platform account.
- Open EA Account settings and select Connected Accounts.
- Find the platform account and select Unlink.
- Review EA’s warning about progress and entitlements. Continue only if you accept the possible loss of access.
- Complete identity verification if EA asks for it, then follow the on-screen confirmation steps.
If you are removing an authorized third-party application rather than a gaming platform, open Authorized Applications and select Revoke for that app. EA’s account unlink instructions cover the settings flow.
How to relink with the EA Account you want to use
For console linking, EA’s process is to open the EA game and sign in with the primary EA Account you intend to use. You may be asked to enter a one-time code sent to the email address associated with that EA Account. Complete the in-game prompts to finish linking. Before entering a code, check that the email belongs to the intended EA Account. If you are trying to regain progress, use the account that owns that progress; linking a different EA Account will not move it across.
Why you may not be able to switch accounts
EA account-switching eligibility depends on link history. Its current unlink guidance says linked accounts can be switched up to three times in a rolling year, but that is a maximum, not a guarantee that every account can be switched. EA’s troubleshooting guidance also says a link made less than a year ago may not yet be eligible for switching. Older EA guidance describes different restrictions, so the current eligibility message in your account settings—or the answer from EA Help for your specific account—is the practical authority.

- Unlink is grayed out: EA says this indicates the account is not eligible to relink. Check the account’s link history and contact EA Help if the screen does not explain the restriction.
- The linked account is disabled, banned, or suspended: EA says you cannot unlink a platform account in that state. Use the relevant account recovery or penalty-dispute process rather than attempting to bypass the restriction. See EA account recovery help and EA’s account penalty guidance.
- You cannot access the linked EA Account: recover it first if possible. Unlinking requires access to the account that currently holds the connection, and recovering the original account is the best route to its associated progress.
Platform and game-specific exceptions
Nintendo accounts
A connected Nintendo Account may not appear in the EA Account’s Connected Accounts list. EA says Nintendo linking can still be completed in-game. Child or limited console sub-accounts cannot connect to EA Accounts to play online. See EA’s console linking instructions.
EA SPORTS FC Web and Companion Apps
Before unlinking, check which platform account is active in the Web or Companion App. EA warns that unlinking the active account can remove access to those apps. Its unlinking guide describes this risk.
Apex Legends
EA warns that unlinking may cause Battle Pass, item-unlock, or other issues. Review the game-specific impact in EA’s unlinking guidance before changing the connection.
