Open the gift page from the redemption link in Steam’s gift email or from the gift notification in the Steam Client, then select Accept Gift. Steam says you have 30 days after delivery to accept or decline; if you take no action, it cancels the purchase and refunds the purchaser.
Accept the gift from Steam’s email or notification
- Wait for delivery if the gift was scheduled. Steam says it sends the recipient an email with a redemption link on the scheduled delivery date. A gift notification also appears in the Steam Client.
- Open the gift page. Use the email redemption link or open the notification in the Steam Client. Steam describes the notification as “1 New Gift.”
- Select Accept Gift. Steam says this adds the game to the library of the account where you redeemed it.
These steps and labels come from Steam Support’s Steam Gifts FAQ. The FAQ does not establish that every device or app version has an identical interface, so the exact presentation may vary.

How long can a gift stay pending?
Steam gives the recipient 30 days after delivery to accept or decline. If you do nothing during that period, Steam automatically cancels the purchase and refunds the purchaser’s original payment method. This 30-day period is stated in Steam Support’s FAQ, which does not give a publication date.
What happens if you decline?
Choose Decline Gift on the gift page if you do not want the game. Steam says declining triggers an automatic refund to the purchaser’s payment method and sends the purchaser an email notice. After you accept, the game is permanently added to the Steam account where you redeemed it.
