Unlock the Water Pump (Production Processing) in the Cradle’s Memetic tree, then build it from Build Mode > Facilities > Gathering & Production. The retrieved recipe is 25 Steel Ingots, 20 Carbon Fiber Fabric, 20 Refined Parts, 20 Standard Parts, and 20 Electronic Parts; the pump uses 10 W. Its output depends on where you place it. If you need to move fluid uphill through pipes, build the separate Water Pump (Function Facility) instead.
How to unlock and build the production pump
- Check the Memetic tree for your scenario. Open the Cradle’s Memetic tree and look under Logistics. The community-maintained Once Human Wiki lists Logistics / 03 Ascendance for ordinary scenario paths and Logistics / 03 Molten Core for The Way of Winter. It reports a cost of 5 Ciphers and 700 Energy Links; paths and costs may vary, so confirm the live menu in your scenario.
- Gather the listed materials. The production pump recipe is 25 Steel Ingots, 20 Carbon Fiber Fabric, 20 Refined Parts, 20 Standard Parts, and 20 Electronic Parts. Dot Esports also reports this recipe, though its guide is older and may not reflect later changes.
- Place the correct facility. Enter Build Mode, open Facilities > Gathering & Production, and select Water Pump (Production Processing). The cited wiki lists its power draw as 10 W.
- Check the output at the chosen location. After placement, inspect the facility menu to see what it can collect there. The pump page lists Dirty Water, Polluted Water, Sea Water, and Barreled Crude Oil as possible outputs, depending on the source.
Choose a location for the output you need
Water sources and oil fields are not interchangeable. The community wiki’s Dirty Water and Polluted Water pages describe collection conditions that depend on access to the relevant source.
- Dirty Water: The wiki describes fresh-water access and notes that some land within sea level may provide water access even where visible water is absent.
- Polluted Water: The page describes collection in a contaminated zone with water access. Pollution Zones may yield both Dirty Water and Polluted Water.
- Sea Water: The pump page associates this output with ocean access.
- Barreled Crude Oil: The pump page associates it with oil fields.
These placement details come from community-maintained references, not an official patch note. Treat them as version-sensitive and use the in-game output menu to confirm what your placement produces.
Automate collection with pipes
The production pump can feed connected facilities such as a Compact Water Filter or Brewing Barrel, or storage such as a Water Tank. The cited pump reference, Water Filter reference, Water Tank reference, and Brewing Barrel reference describe pipe connections for these setups.

- Place the production pump and the receiving facility or tank.
- Connect them with Water Pipes, checking the ports and direction in Build Mode.
- For ordinary gravity-fed flow, put the source outlet above the receiver’s input.
- If the line must carry fluid uphill, install a powered Water Pump (Function Facility) along the line and confirm that it reverses flow as intended.
Production pump vs. Function Facility pump
These are distinct facilities, not alternate recipes for the same object. Use the production pump to extract source-dependent items; use the Function Facility pump to reverse flow in a connected pipe line.
