Download a theme made for your TWiLight Menu++ interface, place its folder in the matching themes directory on your SD card, then select it in TWiLight Menu++ Settings. On 2DS/3DS, you can also download themes directly through Universal-Updater.
Choose a theme for your interface
TWiLight Menu++ themes are made for particular user interfaces, so check compatibility before downloading. Browse the official TWiLight Menu++ Themes catalog, which hosts community-created themes. The catalog lists the interface a theme targets and may show its version and update date.

The DSi, 3DS, R4 Original, and Wood interfaces have separate theme folders. The Homebrew Launcher, Sega Saturn, and Game Boy Color interfaces are not customizable, according to the DS-Homebrew FAQ.
Get the theme
Download from the catalog
Choose a theme for the interface you use and download it from the official catalog. If you are installing manually, keep the theme folder intact so you can copy it to the SD card.

Download on a 2DS or 3DS with Universal-Updater
The catalog also documents an on-console option through Universal-Updater. Add its theme UniStore, then select it to browse and download themes:
- Open Universal-Updater settings and choose Select UniStore.
- Tap + to add a UniStore.
- From the UniStore menu, select
twlmenu-skins.unistore(the TWiLight Menu++ Themes UniStore). - Browse the available themes and download one that matches your interface.

Install the theme on the SD card
For a manual install, copy the downloaded theme folder into the directory for its target interface. These paths are for the SD card root, shown as sd::

Use the directory for the theme’s target UI, not simply the console you own. For example, a theme for the DSi interface belongs in the DSi themes directory even if you are using TWiLight Menu++ on a 3DS.

Select and apply the theme in TWiLight Menu++
- Open TWiLight Menu++ Settings. Depending on your current interface, the settings entry may be accessed differently; you can also hold SELECT while launching TWiLight Menu++ to open settings directly.
- On GUI Settings, set User Interface to the interface the theme was made for.
- Choose Custom Theme, use up or down to highlight the installed theme, and press A.
- Press B to return and apply the selection.
What a theme changes—and what it cannot
A theme changes the menu’s appearance. It may include music, but music plays only if the theme supports it and music is enabled in settings. The Homebrew Launcher, Sega Saturn, and Game Boy Color interfaces do not support custom themes.

- Verify the target interface. Confirm the theme was made for the UI selected under User Interface.
- Check the folder location. Make sure the theme folder is inside that UI’s themes directory on the SD card, rather than in another interface’s directory.
- Recheck the selection steps. Return to Custom Theme, select the installed theme, press A, then B to apply.
