First check your Minecraft version: Replay Mod supports Forge only for Minecraft 1.12.2 and older. Minecraft 1.14 and newer requires Fabric, so a modern Replay Mod download will not load in a Forge profile. For a supported older version, install the matching Forge profile, then add the Replay Mod JAR to that profile’s mods folder.
Check which loader your Minecraft version requires
Replay Mod downloads are tied to specific Minecraft versions, and the loader requirement changes by version. The official documentation describes Forge installation for Minecraft 1.12.2 and below. For Minecraft 1.14 and newer, the official downloads page labels releases as requiring Fabric. A Replay Mod developer has also clarified that Forge is no longer supported above Minecraft 1.12.2.
The cited official material does not provide a general Forge installation recipe for Minecraft 1.13. Check the exact Minecraft version and loader specified on that version’s download entry rather than assuming Forge compatibility.
Install Replay Mod in a Forge profile
- Confirm the Minecraft version. Make sure the Minecraft version, Forge profile, and Replay Mod download all match.
- Install Forge for that version. Launch the Forge profile once so the game instance is created.
- Download the matching Replay Mod build. Choose the entry for your Minecraft version on the Replay Mod downloads page.
- Place the JAR in the instance’s
modsfolder. If you use a third-party launcher or modpack, use that profile’s own game directory; it may not be the default.minecraftfolder. - Launch the Forge profile. Check that Replay Mod appears or loads in the game.
The documentation specifies putting the mod in the Minecraft mods folder, but does not give launcher-specific folder paths. Use the game directory configured for the profile you are launching.

For Minecraft 1.14 or newer, use Fabric
Do not try to force a modern Replay Mod JAR into Forge. Install Fabric for the Minecraft version you intend to play, then use the compatible Replay Mod build and place it in that instance’s mods folder. Follow the loader label on the relevant download entry.
Client installation, servers, and video rendering
Replay Mod runs on your client
Replay Mod is client-side. Install it in your own game instance; it is not installed on the multiplayer server you join. The official documentation states that it cannot be installed on those servers.
FFmpeg is for rendering, not installation
FFmpeg is a separate program used to render Replay Mod creations as video. You do not need it just to install or load the mod. The documentation includes platform-specific FFmpeg installation examples for users who want to render.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix common installation problems
- The game launches, but Replay Mod does not load: verify that the mod download matches the Minecraft version and that its loader requirement matches the profile.
- You are using a modern Replay Mod JAR with Forge: Minecraft 1.14 and newer releases require Fabric; use Fabric rather than Forge.
- The mod is in
.minecraft/mods, but your launcher cannot find it: check the game directory for the selected profile or modpack and put the JAR in that instance’smodsfolder. - You are looking for a server-side install: Replay Mod belongs on the player’s client, not the server.
- You are installing FFmpeg to make Replay Mod load: FFmpeg is for rendering video, not loading the mod.
Older forum posts discuss particular Forge builds and compatibility issues. Treat them as version-specific troubleshooting context, not as universal requirements for every Replay Mod installation. See the Replay Mod forum FAQ.
