To beat the Father of the Flame, Needle-bounce on the hanging pouches to reach and destroy all four arm lanterns, then attack the exposed core. The arena is at the west end of Wisp Thicket; its walls cannot be climbed, so preserving the pouches that remain is central to the fight.

How the fight works
This is a two-phase arena encounter against a structure rather than a mobile opponent. First, destroy four Wisp Lanterns mounted on its arms; when they are gone, the core becomes vulnerable. The Hollow Knight Wiki lists each lantern at 100 HP and the core at 250 HP, for 650 HP total. These are community reference-page values, not independently tested measurements. Hollow Knight Wiki
Phase one: remove the four lanterns
The structure has six arms: the upper and lower pairs carry the four lantern targets, while the middle arms are not destructible. Since the arena walls cannot be climbed, use the hanging pouches as bounce points to gain height and line up Needle strikes. Lanterns summon Wisps while they remain. The Wiki documents a 2.5-second summoning cooldown that drops to 2 seconds after two arms are destroyed or 200 damage has been dealt across the arms; treat those timings as reference data, not a frame-perfect guarantee for every game version. Phase two: attack the core
Once all four lanterns are destroyed, the exposed core can be hit. It sends out a sustained radial stream of fireballs for four seconds, with Wisps summoned three or four times between volleys according to the Wiki. The attack names used on that page are mostly non-canon labels. Hollow Knight Wiki
A practical strategy for the fight
- Map the bounce points before destroying anything. Upper-arm pouches disappear when their attached lantern is destroyed, while pouches on the middle arms remain. Use the persistent middle pouches as your fallback route to higher targets.
- Consider leaving the lower lanterns for last. A Wiki strategy recommends keeping them intact while reaching the upper lanterns, so their attached pouches remain available. This is an optional route, not a required order. Hollow Knight Wiki
- Needle-bounce between targets. Bounce on pouches and lanterns to stay mobile and strike elevated targets. The Wiki recommends using Faydown Cloak between attacks to manage summoned Wisps. - Keep moving during the core’s fireball volley. The stream lasts four seconds, so prioritize dodging until it ends, then look for an opening to attack before the next volley.

Do not plan on hits refilling Silk: the Wiki says this encounter does not grant Silk or build Hunter Crest focus when the boss is hit. It also lists 12 hits to break each lantern and 30 hits for the core with proper timing, while noting a 0.5-second hit cooldown.
