There is no verified official total for the runtime of every Death Stranding cutscene. Online compilations run from roughly seven hours to more than eleven, but they do not count the same things: some include in-game dialogue, interactive story moments, optional content, gameplay, or credits. Treat those figures as video runtimes—not as a reliable cutscene-only total.
Is there an official total cutscene runtime?
No official total was found in the reviewed sources. Kojima Productions and platform holders do not provide a published sum for every individual scene, and there is no verified complete scene-by-scene runtime list. The available totals come from community estimates and videos with different inclusion rules.

The word “cutscene” is part of the problem. A count might include only non-interactive, camera-directed scenes, or it might also include in-engine story sequences, dialogue during play, interactive story moments, and brief cinematic inserts. Whether optional orders and credits are counted can change the result too.
What do the published runtimes actually measure?

These figures are not comparable measurements of the same thing. In particular, the 11:20:03 full-game video explicitly includes in-game dialogue, while the shorter Director’s Cut listing does not document its criteria. Neither can establish the runtime of every cutscene.

Does Director’s Cut add cutscene time?
Death Stranding Director’s Cut adds missions, weapons, vehicles, features, and extended storylines, with the new content integrated into the core game. Kojima Productions’ announcement does not quantify how much cinematic time those additions add. Read the announcement.
A 2026 guide asserts that the Director’s Cut does not significantly change the length or number of core cutscenes, but it provides no measurement. That should be treated as an unverified editorial assessment, not a quantified comparison. The PS5 product page notes that players can pause during cinematics while playing offline; that feature does not establish whether every scene is skippable or whether the two editions have identical runtimes. Why can two players get different totals?
- Different scene definitions: One count may include only full cinematic scenes; another may add in-engine sequences, dialogue inserts, and interactive moments.
- Different playthrough scope: A main-story run and a run that includes optional orders need not contain the same story material.
- Different footage: A “full-game movie” can retain dialogue, gameplay connective material, and credits rather than showing only cinematics.
- Different editions: Director’s Cut includes added missions and story content, but its extra cinematic runtime has not been established.
- Skipped or omitted scenes: A compilation may leave out material or use a different selection from another video.
How to measure your own cutscene total
A useful personal figure needs a defined scope and recorded timestamps; without those, a total is difficult to compare with someone else’s.
- Choose the edition and scope. Record whether you are playing the original release or Director’s Cut, and whether you are counting the main story alone or optional-order scenes too.
- Define what counts. Decide whether to include only non-interactive cinematics or also dialogue inserts, interactive story moments, credits, and gameplay connective material.
- Record start and end times. During a full playthrough or recording, note the timestamp for each included segment.
- Sum only the segments that match your definition. Keep the same rules if you compare the result with another edition or run.
This method can give you a consistent total for your chosen definition, but there is no verified scene-by-scene dataset against which to check it.
