Its pull-style system, Myriad, is for cosmetics. That means the game has randomized pulls and paid currency, but those pulls are not how you obtain playable characters.
How do you unlock characters and weapons?
The central gameplay route is the Secret Letter system. You use Secret Letters in Covert Commissions, complete a commission, then choose from its offered rewards. The Epic Games Store’s October 28, 2025 progression guide describes character Thoughts, weapon blueprints, and Demon Wedge blueprints and crafting materials among the rewards available through this system. Characters: collect Thoughts
In that guide’s account of the system, collecting 30 Character Thoughts unlocks the corresponding character. Thoughts can appear among Covert Commission rewards, so character acquisition is a gameplay progression path rather than a randomized character-banner pull.
Weapons: gather blueprints and materials
Weapons are made from blueprints and crafting materials, which the same guide says can be obtained through the Secret Letter system. This is distinct from pulling for a weapon on a conventional weapon banner.
Where Secret Letters come from
Secret Letter Clues are used to exchange for Secret Letters. The Epic guide lists story and side quests, events, and endgame activities as sources of Clues. The precise activities and available rewards can change with updates, so treat the guide’s list as a description of its publication-era system rather than a guarantee about the current client.

What does Myriad give you?
Myriad is the pull-style system described for cosmetic items, including outfits and other cosmetics—not playable characters or weapons. The Epic Games Store guide describes limited and standard pools: Prismatic Hourglasses are associated with limited-time outfits, while Pristine Hourglasses are used for other cosmetics. This distinction matters: “no character gacha” does not mean there are no randomized pulls or monetization. Myriad is still a cosmetic gacha, and the guide describes a route to purchase its pull currency.

Those sources support the broad point that character and weapon access is tied to gameplay systems and rotating availability. They do not establish that the same named reward, timing, or shop placement is current now. Check the live game or the latest update notice for a specific character or item.
