The Daedalus Stormbow is a strong situational Hardmode bow, especially against exposed targets in open areas. Each use consumes one arrow but sends multiple arrows down from above toward your cursor, giving it broad coverage at the cost of precise, terrain-proof aim. It is not a universal best bow: the target, arrow type, aim point and overhead space all matter.
What the Daedalus Stormbow does
The official Terraria Wiki lists the bow at 38 ranged damage, 2.25 knockback, 4% critical chance, 19 use time and 12.5 velocity. The bow’s arrow count varies with ammunition. The base output is three arrows per use. Holy, Unholy, Hellfire and Jester arrows have a one-third chance to reduce that to two, averaging 2.67 arrows per use; other arrows have a one-third chance to raise it to four, averaging 3.33. These are arrows generated, not separate units of ammunition consumed.
When it performs well—and when it struggles
Open areas and broad targets
Its overhead volley can cover enemies or bosses that are exposed beneath open sky. One arrow’s worth of ammunition produces several shots, so the bow can apply pressure across a broad area without requiring each arrow to be aimed along a conventional straight firing line.

Ceilings and aim control
Overhead blocks can intercept the falling arrows before they reach a target, making enclosed arenas a poor fit. Aim closer to the bottom of the screen for a tighter spread; aiming higher makes the volley less accurate and more spread out. These behaviors are described by the official wiki.
Which arrows should you use?
Arrow choice changes both the number of arrows generated and the effects applied. The official wiki lists these boss-specific recommendations:

The Stormbow article also notes that the Magic Quiver’s velocity bonus works with the bow despite its unusual firing direction. Its best modifier named there is Unreal.

Is it still good after the nerf?
Desktop version 1.4.0.1 reduced the bow’s listed base damage from 43 to 38. That update also changed the average output for Holy, Unholy, Hellfire and Jester arrows to 2.67 per use, compared with the usual 3.33 average for other arrow types, according to the official wiki. So the old blanket claim that Holy arrows are automatically the best choice for the Stormbow needs qualification: the arrow type affects both output count and effects, and the available information does not establish a precise current damage comparison for every option. The wiki labels its Stormbow content for Desktop, Console and Mobile, but it notes a Console-specific difference: the bow points upward rather than toward the cursor. Account for that behavior if you are playing on Console.
How to judge whether it is right for your fight
- Check the sky above the target: open space gives the volley a path; a ceiling or ledge can stop it.
- Test aim height: lower cursor placement tightens the spread, while higher placement broadens it.
- Choose arrows for the matchup: the wiki’s Destroyer, Twins and Skeletron Prime recommendations are useful starting points, not a full build comparison.
- Compare practical hits, not just listed damage: against a moving or narrow target, reliable connections matter as much as the nominal damage and firing rate.
- Consider progression and alternatives: the weapon’s value depends on when it is available and what ranged gear you already have; the cited material does not establish a numerical ranking against other bows.
How rare is it?
The Stormbow is listed as a Hallowed Mimic drop, but the indexed official-wiki results conflict on the chance: the current Stormbow result says 20%, while a redirected result says 25%. Because those figures cannot be reconciled from the available page text, treat the exact rate as unsettled rather than relying on one precise percentage.
