What XP means in Overwatch 2
For Battle Pass progression, XP is not the original Overwatch portrait-level experience system. It advances Battle Pass rewards. Under the Battle Pass Revamp, earned XP is applied to the track you select. Blizzard describes the change this way: “You earn Battle Pass XP as you do normally, but your XP will now be applied to the “track” you’ve selected.” Blizzard’s Battle Pass Revamp announcement

Playing matches
Blizzard says Battle Pass XP is awarded at the end of each game. The amount for a specific match can depend on applicable conditions, but the official material available does not establish a complete current list of components or their values. Blizzard’s Battle Pass explainer
Completing challenges
Challenges are another documented source of Battle Pass XP. Blizzard’s 2024 developer update says weekly challenges were made more flexible and reward XP. Which challenges are available and what they award can change with the live game. Blizzard’s 2024 developer update

Why there is no reliable current per-match formula
The official sources cited here do not publish a consolidated formula showing how much XP each match grants or how every possible modifier stacks. That means figures for time played, wins, consecutive matches, medals, or combined bonuses should not be treated as verified current rates unless Blizzard publishes them or the live game explicitly shows them.
Older community calculations are historical player analysis, not confirmation of today’s rules. Check the Battle Pass interface in your current game for your progression and any reward information shown there.

Grouping with friends: a historical figure
Blizzard’s 2022 Battle Pass explainer described a 20% Battle Pass XP boost per match for grouping with friends. This is a launch-era figure; the newer Revamp material does not confirm that the same rate remains in effect. Do not assume it is the current bonus without checking the live game. Patch-specific map bonus
Blizzard’s April 2026 patch notes say Quick Play games on maps tagged New or Reworked grant bonus Battle Pass XP. This is a condition attached to that patch, not a general permanent formula; check the current patch notes and in-game reward display to see whether it applies to your match.
