It happens before the bracket begins; it is separate from choosing or locking in a champion. The exact window depends on the event, server and tier, so use the countdown shown in the League client as your deadline.
How to lock in for Clash

Open the Clash tab in the League client and check the active tournament’s displayed schedule and countdown.

When your team’s lock-in window is available, each player confirms the team’s entry from that tab.

Make sure everyone has confirmed before the displayed cutoff. A guide from The Spike says a team that misses the cutoff cannot enter that day’s bracket; it also reports a ticket refund, though that refund detail is not confirmed by the Riot source cited here.

These steps reflect The Spike’s player-facing guide, updated May 26, 2025. Riot’s cited patch notes confirm a regional change to the window, but do not provide a complete current walkthrough.
When does the lock-in window open?
There is no reliable universal opening time or duration to apply to every Clash event. Riot’s Patch 14.17 notes, published August 27, 2024, documented a change from a two-hour to a one-hour lock-in window for PH, SG, TW, TH and VN servers. Riot described that change for those servers; it should not be treated as a current rule for every region or later event. Read Riot’s Patch 14.17 notes.

Schedules can also vary by tournament tier and region. Wards.lol publishes tier- and region-specific schedule information, but it is a third-party schedule page, not a substitute for the live event display. Check the Clash tab for the event you plan to play rather than relying on a remembered time or an older schedule. See Wards.lol’s Clash schedule page.
What if a teammate misses the cutoff?
The Spike guide says a team that fails to complete lock-in misses that day’s bracket. It also says the ticket is refunded, but the Riot source cited for the regional timing change does not establish that refund policy. Treat the refund claim as The Spike’s account, not a guarantee of Riot’s current policy. Read The Spike’s Clash guide.

Lock-in is not champion select
Lock-in confirms tournament participation before matches begin. Champion select happens later, when players choose champions for a match. Confirming the team’s entry does not mean you have selected a champion, and selecting a champion is not the same as completing Clash lock-in.
