In Magic: The Gathering’s Edge of Eternities, station is an activated ability: during your main phase, while the stack is empty, tap a different untapped creature you control to put charge counters on a permanent with station. The number of counters is based on that creature’s power when the ability resolves. Those counters unlock the card’s printed station thresholds, and a threshold showing power and toughness also makes the permanent a creature while you meet it.
How to activate station
- During your main phase, make sure the stack is empty.
- Choose a permanent with station and activate its station ability.
- Tap another untapped creature you control to pay the cost. The station permanent cannot tap itself to pay this cost, and the creature is tapped—not sacrificed.
- When the ability resolves, count the tapped creature’s power and put that many charge counters on the station permanent.
- Check the card’s station thresholds. Each threshold you meet grants the abilities shown in its striation; if one shows power and toughness, the permanent is also a creature with those base stats.
You do not have to reach a threshold in one activation. Counters accumulate unless an effect removes them. Wizards of the Coast explains the sorcery-speed timing in its Edge of Eternities Mechanics article (July 8, 2025); the set’s release notes give the keyword definition and card-specific rulings (July 21, 2025).
When power is counted
The ability uses the creature’s power when it resolves, not when you activate it. If its power changes while the ability is waiting to resolve, use the new value. If it has left the battlefield, use its last-known power from when it was last on the battlefield. A creature with negative power puts no counters on the station permanent.
The creature used to pay the cost can have come under your control that turn; station’s sorcery timing does not impose a summoning-sickness restriction on tapping it to pay this cost. It must be untapped and under your control when you activate the ability.

How station thresholds affect the card
Read each station symbol as a counter threshold. Once the permanent has at least that many charge counters, it has the abilities printed in that symbol’s striation. A Spacecraft with power and toughness in a threshold striation is not a creature before reaching that threshold, unless a separate effect makes it one.
If another effect makes a Spacecraft a creature before its station creature threshold, it does not automatically get the power and toughness printed in that striation; the effect that turned it into a creature determines its base stats. Conversely, if a threshold is met, then counters are removed and the permanent falls below it, the threshold abilities—and its creature status from that striation—stop applying.

Other effects can add or remove charge counters, so a threshold can turn on without activating station or turn off after counters are removed. Copy effects copy the card’s printed abilities, including station-threshold abilities, but do not copy the original permanent’s current counter total.
Can you keep stationing after the top threshold?
Yes. A station permanent can still be stationed after it reaches its highest printed threshold. Additional counters do not grant extra abilities from thresholds that are not printed, though they may matter to other effects.

Example: Lumen-Class Frigate
Wizards’ release notes describe Lumen-Class Frigate as having an earlier ability threshold at two charge counters and a creature threshold at 12. This shows why it is useful to check every striation: a station card can gain an ability well before it becomes a creature. The 12-counter value is specific to this card, not a general station rule.
What “station” means on these cards
Edge of Eternities uses station on Spacecraft artifacts and Planet lands. Spacecraft is an artifact subtype; it does not, by itself, give a permanent any special rules. The card’s printed text determines what it does, while station supplies the counter-based thresholds. Wizards’ Edge of Eternities Update Bulletin (August 21, 2025) describes station as a new keyword ability and charge counters as the means for a station card to gain abilities and potentially become a creature.

Choosing a creature to tap
For practical play, weigh the power of the creatures you can spare against the card’s thresholds. A higher-power creature can add more counters in one resolution, but tapping it means it will not be available to attack or block while tapped. Also consider whether the first threshold gives you a useful ability before the creature threshold; the right choice depends on the board and the card’s printed striations.
