There is no single Steam Wallet “pending” timer: an approved refund sent to your Wallet may take 24–48 hours to appear, while a pending charge after a failed card purchase is a bank authorization that the bank controls. A separate three-day restriction can affect when Wallet funds are usable on the Community Market; it does not delay the funds appearing in your Wallet.
First, identify what is pending
Check where you see the pending status and what happened immediately before it. Steam Support’s guidance, accessed in 2026, describes three different situations with different timelines and next steps:

Steam’s support pages do not show publication dates; the timelines here are Steam Support guidance accessed in 2026, not guarantees for every bank, payment method, or transaction.
If an approved refund is pending in your Wallet
Steam says approved Wallet credit may take 24–48 hours to appear. Its general refund guidance says an approved refund may take up to seven days to appear in the account, and international payment methods may take longer. Those windows describe an approved refund, not a failed purchase authorization still displayed by your bank.

- Sign in to the Steam account that made the purchase and check the Wallet balance and purchase history. Purchase history can help show whether the refund arrived and was then used for another purchase. Steam Support
- Confirm the refund status in your purchase history. If it was approved less than seven days ago, allow the stated processing window to pass.
- If more than seven days have passed, follow Steam’s refund guidance. When the refund is going back through a bank, Steam directs users to contact the bank about a pending refund; international payment methods may take longer.
If your bank shows a pending charge after a failed purchase
A pending line on a bank statement does not necessarily mean Steam completed a Wallet top-up. Steam says it will not collect funds the bank has put on hold for a failed transaction. The issuer must release the authorization, and Steam says it cannot force the bank to do so.
Steam’s stated estimates depend on the failure and the bank: some failed address or CVV checks may take up to 30 days for the hold to be released, while some banks may take up to 10 business days to return funds set aside after a card decline. These are contextual estimates from Steam, not a universal release deadline.

- Ask your bank or card issuer how long it keeps authorizations for failed purchases and whether it can see the hold’s expected expiration.
- Use Steam Support if the purchase status or error remains unclear; include the exact error and purchase details. For purchase issues, see Steam Support.
- Do not count the bank authorization as Wallet funds unless the balance or purchase history confirms the credit.
If the Wallet balance is there but Market use is blocked
Steam may restrict Community Market use for three days after funding with an unverified credit card or PayPal. In that case, the money may already be in the Wallet; only use on the Market is restricted. This rule does not apply as a general delay for every Wallet payment method, and it is not the time an approved refund takes to post.
