You can find a four-socket polearm, roll sockets with the Horadric Cube, or use Larzuk’s quest reward. The Cube’s result is random; Larzuk always adds the maximum sockets allowed for that polearm’s base and item level, not a number you choose. Check the base and item level before spending the quest reward.
Choose the method that fits your polearm
| Method | What you need | Can you guarantee four sockets? |
|---|---|---|
| Find one already socketed | A four-socket polearm drop | Yes, if the item drops with four sockets. Naturally appearing socket counts depend on difficulty and the item’s limits. Socket reference |
| Horadric Cube | An eligible unsocketed, normal-quality polearm; Ral rune; Amn rune; Perfect Amethyst | No. The recipe rolls randomly, subject to the base’s maximum sockets. Recipe and socket reference |
| Larzuk | An eligible polearm and the Act V Siege on Harrogath socket reward | Only when the base and item level allow a maximum of exactly four. Larzuk adds the maximum, not a chosen count. Quest reference |
Use the Horadric Cube for a random result
Place the unsocketed polearm, one Ral rune, one Amn rune, and one Perfect Amethyst in the Horadric Cube, then transmute. The recipe creates a socketed weapon of the same type. It works on normal-quality weapons; low-quality and superior weapons are not eligible.
The recipe rolls a potential socket count from one to six, then caps the result at the maximum allowed for that base and item level. So if four sockets are allowed, the roll can produce four—but it is not guaranteed. If the polearm’s maximum is below four, the recipe cannot give it four.
Use Larzuk only when the maximum is exactly four
Complete the Act V Siege on Harrogath quest and choose its socket reward from Larzuk. On a regular item, he adds the maximum number of sockets allowed by its base, item type, and item level. If that maximum is four, the polearm gets four; if it is five or six, Larzuk gives the higher number instead.

The item level comes from the source that dropped the polearm. Your character’s level when you socket it does not change the item level. The official quest reference notes that an item can receive fewer than its listed inherent maximum when its item level is too low, and says item level above 40 generally reaches inherent maximum sockets. Treat that as general guidance, not a substitute for checking the specific polearm base. Larzuk quest reference

Socket limits depend on both the polearm base and item level. The polearm’s name alone does not tell you whether Larzuk will give four sockets, and difficulty also affects the socket counts that can appear naturally. Use a base-specific socket reference or calculator before using Larzuk; the D2R Mythos calculator is one community reference.

There is no dependable area-by-area farming route or drop-rate guarantee established here for finding a four-socket polearm. If you farm for one, remember that a particular location is not a promise of a four-socket drop.

Quick decision guide
- Want to keep your Larzuk reward? Use the Cube recipe on an eligible plain polearm and accept the random result.
- Know the base’s maximum is exactly four? Larzuk is deterministic and will add four.
- Can the base have five or six sockets at its item level? Avoid Larzuk if you need exactly four. The Cube can still roll four if four is within the allowed maximum.
- Already have a four-socket polearm? It is ready to use as a socketed base.
