Start by testing the game with mods disabled. If the menu works, identify the incompatible mod; if it does not, record the exact symptom and platform before looking for a more specific fix.
First, identify what is glitching
“Menu glitch” can describe a menu that will not open, missing or scrambled interface elements, or a screen that looks wrong after an update. The first useful distinction is whether the issue disappears when mods and custom content are disabled.
- Note which screen or menu is affected: main menu, interaction or pie menu, Options, Gallery, Create a Sim (CAS), or another screen.
- Describe what happens: for example, whether a menu fails to open, elements are missing, or the layout looks distorted.
- Record your platform, game version, and whether you use mods or custom content (CC).
These details matter because reports of a “UI glitch” do not establish one cause or solution for every platform and symptom.
Test the game with mods disabled
EA’s recommended first diagnostic is to launch the game with mods disabled, enter Live Mode, and check whether the problem remains. Close the game without saving after this test. EA warns that saving and exiting before custom content and mods are re-enabled can remove that content from the save.

- Live the Immortal Life
- Disable mods and custom content, then launch The Sims 4.
- Load a household into Live Mode and try the affected menu.
- Close the game without saving during the no-mod test.
If the menu works without mods, an outdated or incompatible mod is a likely explanation. Mods that worked before a game update can cause problems afterward; EA advises checking with the mod creator for compatibility with the latest update.
If the menu works without mods, find the conflicting mod
EA recommends adding mods back in batches and testing after each batch. When the problem returns, split that batch in half and test again; repeat the process until you isolate the mod responsible.

- Customize your Sims’ looks and their home with new family fashion and build items. Give the kids’ bedrooms extra personality, remodel the kitchen to feel homier, and let your Sims express their sporty or artistic sides with new outfits.
- Check mod creators’ pages for compatibility information before restoring mods.
- Re-enable a small batch, restart the game, and test the affected menu.
- If the glitch returns, divide that batch into two smaller groups and test each group.
- Continue narrowing the group until you identify the mod that brings the problem back.
Start with gameplay or function-changing mods: EA notes that Game Mods are more likely to cause issues than CC. If a specific menu will not open, a mod that adds menus to a Sim or item is a reasonable early suspect, not proof that it is the cause.
If the glitch remains with mods disabled
If the same problem occurs in the no-mod test, the test has not identified a mod as its cause. There is no established universal next repair step for all menus and platforms. Record the affected screen, exact symptom, platform, game version, and whether the issue persists with mods removed; then check EA support or community guidance for that specific case.

One EA Forums reply about a particular UI-glitch report suggested removing UI Cheats, deleting localthumbcache.package, and, if that did not help, repairing the game through Origin. This is community advice for one reported case, not evidence that UI Cheats causes all menu glitches. The reply names Origin and does not establish that its repair instructions fit every current launcher setup.
Check update notes without assuming they cover your issue
EA’s May 27, 2025 update notes listed improvements to Goals UI elements alongside other fixes. The versions identified for that dated update were PC 1.115.216.1030, Mac 1.115.216.1230, and console 2.13. Those are historical release details, not current-version guidance, and do not show that the update fixed a different menu symptom.

The EA Forums issue index also referenced a community Broken and Updated Mods/CC list for patch 1.128 dated September 22, 2026. It can be a lead when checking mod status, but a community list is not confirmation of an EA-identified game defect. Match any update note or mod list to your platform, version, and exact symptom before treating it as relevant.
