Which weed-removal option should you use?

How to clear the weeds already on your island
Pull them yourself
Walk up to a weed clump and pick it up. This is the direct option when you want to clear a particular area or avoid paying for a full-island service. Pulling weeds clears what is there now, but does not establish that no more will appear; players have reported that weeds can recur after cleanup. Player discussion
Ask Leif to remove them
Nookipedia reports that Leif can remove all weeds on the island for 60,000 Bells. The removed weeds are placed in the recycle box the next day. Leif also buys weeds for twice their usual selling price, according to the same source. Check the price offered in-game before relying on it; the available sources do not establish an exact eligibility threshold for the removal service. Nookipedia
Can you stop weeds from coming back?
The ACNH FAQ reports that having 150 or more weeds on the island stops weeds from spawning or growing. This is a community-documented mechanic, not a guarantee stated in Nintendo’s guide. More importantly, it works by retaining a large number of weeds: it may suppress new growth, but it cannot give you a clean island. ACNH FAQ

If you want the island to stay weed-free, plan to pull new weeds periodically or use Leif’s service when available. The sources do not establish a way to keep an island permanently weed-free without ongoing cleanup.
Does Resetti’s cleanup service remove weeds?
No. GamesRadar’s guide to the 3.0 cleanup service says Resetti does not remove weeds, which it treats separately from the items and other cleanup options covered by the service. Use manual pulling or Leif’s reported removal service for weeds. GamesRadar
