To attack a friend’s base in Clash of Clans, use a Friendly Challenge. The defending player starts it from Clan Chat, so both players need to be in the same clan. You can add each other as Clash Friends to make it easier to find and keep track of one another, but the documented challenge flow is clan-based.
How to challenge a friend in Clash of Clans
A Friendly Challenge lets clanmates test attacks and base layouts without risking trophies or resources. The defender sends the invitation; the attacker accepts it from Clan Chat.

- Join the same clan. Friendly Challenge invitations go to clanmates in Clan Chat. If either player has not unlocked clan activity, rebuild the Clan Castle first.
- Defender: post the challenge. Open Clan Chat and tap Challenge. In the pop-up, choose Clan Castle troops and a base layout, customize the message if you like, and optionally choose a Battle Modifier. Tap Start! to send the challenge.
- Attacker: accept the invitation. Open the challenge in Clan Chat. You can scout the base first or go directly to the attack. Your attack uses the army currently set on the training screen; prepare it there before accepting, because you cannot edit it from the scout view.
- Watch or replay. Clan members can tap Watch Live in Clan Chat during an attack. After it ends, the replay is available from chat.
Battle Modifiers are optional settings that change troop or defense stats. Supercell’s guide lists Esport and Legend I, II, and III settings; available choices and their effects can vary by game version, so check the current challenge screen for details.
How to add someone as a Clash Friend
- Open the other player’s profile and tap Add friend.
- Have them accept the request. Accepted Clash Friends appear in the Social tab.
The current Supercell support page sets a limit of 100 Clash Friends, with pending requests counting toward that limit. Adding someone as a Clash Friend helps you find and keep track of them; the documented Friendly Challenge invitation still goes through Clan Chat to clanmates.

How to join your friend’s clan
- Ask your friend for the clan tag, the identifier beginning with
#, and search using that rather than the clan name. This helps distinguish clans with similar names. - Check the clan’s access setting and requirements. An open clan may allow you to join directly; an invite-only clan may require a request or an invitation from an eligible officer; a closed clan does not accept new members.
- If you cannot join, ask the clan leader or an officer whether an invitation is possible and whether you meet the clan’s requirements.
Can you challenge a friend who is in another clan?
The official instructions reviewed for Clash of Clans describe Friendly Challenges as clan-based and do not establish a separate direct one-to-one challenge flow for friends outside the same clan. To use the documented method, join the same clan and send the challenge through Clan Chat.
