In Terraria, search the Cavern layer: the Nymph first appears as a stationary Lost Girl and can spawn in any biome. There is no item that summons a Nymph directly. A Water Candle or Battle Potion can increase general enemy activity, while detection items help you spot the Lost Girl; none guarantees a Nymph will appear.
Where to look for a Nymph
In an ordinary world, Nymphs spawn in the Cavern layer in any biome. You do not need to find a particular biome or build a special arena. In a world using the Remix seed, the documented location changes to the Underground layer. These location details come from the Official Terraria Wiki’s Nymph entry.

Look for the Lost Girl, not an enemy that is already attacking. She is usually stationary and can be easy to overlook in a dark cavern. The Bestiary describes her as appearing to wait for rescue; the Nymph entry explains that this is a disguise before she attacks.
How to improve your chances of an encounter
- Search Cavern spawn areas. Explore a biome that is convenient for you, checking places where enemies can spawn rather than waiting in a cleared or protected area.
- Increase general enemy activity if useful. A Water Candle raises the general spawn rate by 33.33% and maximum spawns by 50%. A Battle Potion raises both by 100%. These are general spawn modifiers, not Nymph-specific odds; other applicable modifiers combine multiplicatively. A Peace Candle cancels Water Candle effects in the ordinary circumstances described by the NPC spawning guide, so do not use one alongside a Water Candle expecting an extra boost.
- Use detection aids while you explore. A Lifeform Analyzer can report the Lost Girl, and a Hunter Potion highlights her as an enemy. A Magic Lantern can also help reveal her nearby. These help you find her; they do not cause her to spawn.
- Stay alert when she appears. The Lost Girl transforms if injured, if you are within 12.5 tiles with direct line of sight, or if she is moving—including after falling or being knocked back. Keep your distance if you are not ready for a fight.
Battle Potion details
A Battle Potion doubles the normal spawn rate and the maximum number of enemies on screen for seven minutes. The listed recipe uses Bottled Water, Deathweed, and either a Rotten Chunk or Vertebra; depending on version, craft it at a Placed Bottle, Alchemy Table, or Alchemy Flask. See the Battle Potion entry for the item details.

How rare is a Nymph?
The Official Terraria Wiki reports an approximate 1/160 code-derived chance, citing Desktop 1.4.5.8. That figure is not a universal observed chance per enemy spawn: the wiki cautions that earlier spawn branches can preempt the Nymph roll, so the actual observed chance is lower and inconsistent. Treat it as a code-based reference, not a promise about how long a search will take.
The Nymph is classified as a rare pre-Hardmode enemy, but can also appear in Hardmode. The wiki’s page history records a Desktop 1.4.4 change to its Hardmode spawn roll. Spawn mechanics and figures may differ by platform, version, location, and seed; the cited probability analysis is specifically tied to Desktop 1.4.5.8.
