For the newer Norse games, PlayStation estimates God of War (2018) at about 20–25 hours for the main story and 40–50 hours for a completionist run. For God of War Ragnarök, its estimate is up to 40 hours for the main story plus selected side quests, or 55–60 hours to see everything. Older Greek-era entries are generally shorter: historical community-based estimates put their main stories at roughly 5.5–12 hours. These are planning ranges, not guarantees; your pace, exploration, difficulty and combat retries all matter.
Playtime estimates by game
The figures below distinguish official PlayStation guidance from older community-based averages. The latter were reported by 3DJuegos in 2018 from HowLongToBeat submissions, so treat them as indicative historical estimates rather than current benchmarks.

| God of War (2018) | About 20–25 hours for the main story; 40–50 hours for a completionist run | PlayStation’s official guidance. The 2018 community-data average reported by 3DJuegos was about 17.5 hours for the main story. |
| God of War Ragnarök | Up to 40 hours for the main story plus selected side quests; 55–60 hours to see everything | PlayStation’s official guidance. The up-to-40-hour figure includes side content, not just the central story. |
For the 2018 game, the difference between PlayStation’s 20–25-hour estimate and the older 17.5-hour community average illustrates why sources can disagree: estimates reflect different players and samples. PlayStation says its estimate varies with difficulty and encourages players to go at their own pace.
What counts as “beating” a God of War game?
Main story
A story-focused run means finishing the central campaign without trying to clear every optional activity. This is the closest match for the older Greek-era figures in the table.

Main story plus selected side quests
PlayStation’s up-to-40-hour estimate for Ragnarök includes selected side quests. It is therefore not directly comparable to a story-only figure.
Completionist or “see everything” run
These estimates describe a broader goal than finishing the campaign. PlayStation gives a 40–50-hour completionist range for God of War (2018) and 55–60 hours to see everything in Ragnarök. Thorough exploration and retries on difficult fights can push an individual run beyond a story-focused estimate.

Can you add the playtimes to get a series total?
There is no consistent total for beating every God of War game. The 2018 comparison covers seven entries and predates Ragnarök; PlayStation’s current guidance uses different categories for the two Norse games and does not provide estimates for every release. Adding the numbers would mix story-only, story-plus-side-quest and completionist definitions while leaving some titles out.
PlayStation’s franchise page also lists God of War Sons of Sparta, released in 2026, and identifies Ragnarök: Valhalla as a digital add-on, but the cited guidance gives neither a playtime estimate. God of War Laufey is listed as a future release dated February 16, 2027, so it is not part of a completed-playthrough total as of October 8, 2026.
