A level-60 epic racial mount costs 1,000 gold before discounts. These prices are for the 2019-release Classic Era ruleset, not every Classic re-release or seasonal realm.
Standard Classic Era mount costs
For the standard Classic Era ruleset based on the 2019 release, riding training and the mount are separate purchases. The prices below are reported by Wowhead’s Classic mount guide, updated August 10, 2026.
| Purchase | Price before discounts | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Level-40 riding training | 20 gold | Riding skill; paid separately from the mount. |
| Level-40 rare racial mount | 80 gold | The standard first mount. Training plus mount totals 100 gold. |
| Level-60 epic racial mount | 1,000 gold | The faster ground mount; this price does not include riding training. |
How discounts change the price
Wowhead reports two possible 10% discounts in standard Classic Era: reaching Honored with the relevant faction and achieving PvP Rank 3. The guide says they can combine, for up to 20% off.
| Purchase | With both reported discounts | Reported breakdown |
|---|---|---|
| Level-40 training and rare mount | 80 gold total | 16 gold training plus 64 gold mount. |
| Level-60 epic racial mount | 800 gold | Up to 20% off the 1,000-gold base price. |
These discount details are for the standard Classic Era rules described in the guide. Check the rules and prices on your realm before budgeting around them.

When can you buy your first mount?
Blizzard’s WoW Classic Primer for New Players says characters can learn riding and purchase a first mount at level 40, if they have enough gold. Reaching the level requirement does not cover either purchase: plan for both the riding training and the mount.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the price can differ by Classic version
“Classic WoW” covers more than one ruleset. Blizzard announced reduced riding-training and level-40 mount costs for Season of Mastery in its Season of Mastery announcement. That announcement establishes that costs were reduced, but does not provide the exact prices. The 100-gold first-mount budget should therefore be treated as the standard Classic Era baseline, not a universal price for every seasonal or re-released version.
