When should an Xbox game gift arrive?
Sent immediately
Microsoft’s Digital Goods Gift Terms say that unless the purchaser selects a different delivery date, the gift email is sent to the recipient immediately following purchase.

Scheduled for later
If the sender chooses a future delivery date, that date controls. Microsoft says scheduling can be available up to one year after purchase. Ask the sender whether they selected a later date before treating a gift as missing.
What does the recipient receive?
The gift is delivered as a code for the recipient to redeem; receiving an email or console notification does not mean the game has automatically been added to the account or installed. Xbox Wire’s 2025 gifting guide says the recipient receives a message on their Xbox console and at the email associated with their Xbox account.

What to check if the gift has not arrived
- Confirm the delivery date. Ask the sender whether the gift was scheduled for later. The selected date may be as far as one year after purchase when scheduling is available.
- Check the right inbox. Confirm which email address the sender entered, then check that mailbox, including its spam or junk folders. Also check the recipient’s Xbox console for a gift message.
- Have the sender verify the purchase. The sender can review the purchase and gift details through their Microsoft account. The available official information does not establish that they can always retrieve or resend a gift code.
- Contact official support if it remains missing. Use Xbox or Microsoft support for purchase or redemption help. Microsoft does not publish a guaranteed delivery-delay limit or support response time for this situation.
Does region affect Xbox game gifting?
Yes. Microsoft’s gift terms require the purchaser and recipient to be in the same country or region, and gifts must be purchased and redeemed through participating stores. Xbox Wire’s 2025 guide likewise advises buyers to ensure the recipient is in the same country. A region mismatch may affect whether the gift can be purchased or redeemed; it does not create a published delivery-time estimate.
