In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the broad count is four robot-looking villagers: Ribbot, Sprocket, Cephalobot, and Del. Some lists say three because they count only the villagers explicitly described as metallic and robot-themed: Ribbot, Sprocket, and Cephalobot.
Why you may see three or four
The count depends on whether you include Del. Nookipedia describes Ribbot, Sprocket, and Cephalobot as metallic, robot-themed villagers. A separate New Horizons character reference calls Cephalobot the fourth robotic villager, counting Del alongside those three. Del is the edge case: his metallic look fits the broader count, though some fans read his design as battleship-themed.
So, use three for the narrower robot-themed group, or four if “robot-looking” includes Del. The categories are descriptive, not an official animal species classification.
Which villagers are counted?
| Villager | Animal category | How the count treats them |
|---|---|---|
| Ribbot | Frog | Included in both counts as a metallic, robot-themed villager. |
| Sprocket | Ostrich | Included in both counts as a metallic, robot-themed villager. |
| Cephalobot | Octopus | Included in both counts as a metallic, robot-themed villager. |
| Del | Alligator | Included in the broad count of four; excluded from the narrower count of three. |
“Robot” is a visual or theme description here, not a fifth animal category. The four villagers retain their respective frog, ostrich, octopus, and alligator classifications. Nookipedia’s roster lists 417 villagers through version 3.0; that overall roster figure is separate from the robot-themed count.

Robot furniture is not a villager
Some search results refer to robot items rather than characters. The Robot Hero is a craftable, customizable housewares item, and the tin robot is seasonal furniture. Neither counts as a villager.
The Robot Hero recipe requires 1 rocket, 1 gold armor, 30 rusted parts, 90 iron nuggets, and 10 gold nuggets. Nookipedia lists the tin robot as seasonal miscellaneous furniture sold at Nook’s Cranny from December 1 through December 23 for 3,500 Bells.

This answer is for New Horizons. Nookipedia’s 417-villager roster is marked current through version 3.0; it is not a robot-villager statistic published by Nintendo. Future game updates or changes to reference pages could affect the roster or how characters are classified.
