Why are there two different ages for Fortnite?
“Fortnite” can mean the original game or the Battle Royale mode that many players associate with the name. The July 25, 2017 date marks the original game’s Early Access start; September 26, 2017 marks Battle Royale becoming free to everyone. Use the first date for Fortnite as a whole and the second when asking specifically about Battle Royale.

Save the World is the cooperative mode associated with Fortnite’s original experience. In a March 11, 2026 announcement, Epic said it would become free-to-play on April 16, 2026, and listed PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud, and Nintendo Switch 2 for that planned release. That access change is not the game’s original Early Access date and does not change the age calculations above. Platform availability can change, so consult Epic’s current Fortnite information for the latest details. Epic’s announcement gives the planned change and platform list.
