Before resetting: protect your save
Deleting or replacing saved data can permanently remove progress. Cloud synchronization can also restore an older save or present a conflict between local and cloud files. A reinstall alone is not a reliable way to start a new career because it does not necessarily remove saved progress.

- Make a backup before changing or removing local save files.
- Read any cloud-sync prompt carefully; choosing the wrong copy can restore old progress or overwrite the new save.
- If your progress disappeared unexpectedly, stop experimenting with save files and contact Forza Support about recovery instead.
Reset progress on the Microsoft Store or Xbox app PC version
A procedure reproduced in a Microsoft Community search result and attributed to a Forza forum post uses Windows app reset while the PC is offline. It is community-reported guidance, not a currently verified official Forza procedure. Windows labels and cloud prompts can change, so consult the current Forza lost-progress guidance before proceeding.
- Enable PC Offline Permissions for the Microsoft Store account that owns the game.
- Launch the game, then disconnect the PC from the internet.
- Open Windows Settings and find Forza Horizon 4 under Apps and games. Open Advanced options and choose Reset.
- Launch the game while still offline and play briefly to create a new local save.
- Reconnect to the internet. If the game asks whether to use the cloud or local save, the reported procedure selects the local file to continue with the new progress. Confirm the prompt carefully; the available choices can affect which save is retained.
Reset progress on Steam
A Microsoft Community moderator points Steam players to the Steam-specific section of Forza Support’s lost-progress article. Use that official guidance first. A Steam Community discussion also describes a player-reported local-file method; it is not an official Forza procedure.

Community-reported local save method
- Disable Steam Cloud for Forza Horizon 4.
- Locate the game’s Steam userdata folder. The discussion identifies the game’s app ID folder as
1293830. - Back up or rename the
remotesave folder rather than deleting it outright. - Relaunch the game and read any cloud-sync prompt carefully before choosing which save to use.
Players in the discussion report success, but removing or replacing save data can lose progress. If you are unsure which copy Steam will use, do not proceed until you have a backup and have checked Forza Support’s instructions for Steam.
Reset progress on an Xbox console
A current, verifiable step-by-step console reset procedure is not established here, so avoid following menu sequences copied from unrelated Xbox games or older guides. Use Forza Support’s instructions for your console and pay close attention to whether an option removes only the console’s local copy or deletes cloud data as well. If you opened the game and found yourself back at the beginning without choosing to reset, treat it as a save-recovery problem, not a request to start a new career. An Official Forza Community Forums response directs players to create a support ticket and choose My game started from scratch. Sign in with the account that held the missing save, and avoid deleting or replacing files while seeking recovery help.
