Click inside Roblox Studio’s 3D viewport, then press , (comma) to rotate the camera left or . (period) to rotate it right. To orbit around a selected part or model, select it and press F first, then use comma or period.
Rotate the Studio camera with the keyboard
- Click inside the 3D viewport so it has keyboard focus.
- Press , to rotate left, or . to rotate right. Roblox documents these as the viewport camera’s counterclockwise and clockwise rotation controls. Roblox Creator Hub: Studio interface
Orbit around a selected object
Select the part or model you want to look at and press F to focus the camera on it. Then use comma or period to rotate around that focused object. Other useful viewport keyboard controls
For navigation beyond rotation, Roblox documents these Studio viewport controls:
- W/A/S/D: move the camera horizontally.
- Q/E: change camera elevation.
- Shift: adjust movement speed while using a movement key.
- F: focus the camera on a selected part.
These controls move or refocus the view; comma and period remain the documented keyboard rotation shortcuts. Studio also has camera movement, shift, and pan speed settings, but those settings concern navigation speed rather than replacing the rotation controls. Studio viewport, playtest camera, and freecam are different
Editing in the Studio viewport

Default camera while playing an experience
The player camera has separate controls. Roblox lists right-click drag, mobile tap-and-drag, a gamepad’s secondary thumbstick, and the left and right arrow keys as ways to rotate the default third-person camera around the character. Freecam during a Studio playtest
Freecam is available during Studio playtests and toggles with Left Shift + P. Its documented keyboard controls include WASD for movement and E/Q for elevation, while rotation is documented through right-mouse drag, trackpad pan, or gamepad. If comma or period does not rotate the view
- Click the 3D viewport before pressing the keys; keyboard input must be directed there.
- If you meant to circle a particular object, select it and press F before rotating.
- Roblox documents both the default Roblox camera navigation model and an IndustryCompatible model. The reference describes IndustryCompatible as following industry-standard 3D-application conventions, but does not identify it as a keyboard-only replacement for comma and period. - Roblox’s documentation does not specify the rotation increment per keypress, a keyboard-only pitch control for the Studio viewport, or behavior for every keyboard layout. The Studio tutorial recommends a two-button mouse with a scroll wheel for easier general navigation, but that recommendation is not stated as a requirement for the keyboard rotation shortcut.
