It has not been publicly disclosed. GameSpot reported on May 5, 2026, that neither Rockstar nor parent company Take-Two had provided a specific development-budget figure. Take-Two’s official financial releases report company-wide results and business outlooks, not a GTA VI production ledger. GameSpot’s report and Take-Two’s investor releases do not establish the game’s actual cost.

That means the most accurate answer to “How much did GTA 6 cost to make?” is: the public does not know. The figures repeated online should be read as speculative estimates, not as an official budget.
Where do the reported GTA 6 budget estimates come from?
Published estimates differ substantially in attribution and apparent scope. The reporting does not establish that they measure the same costs, so they should not be treated as a confirmed range.

Why Take-Two’s financial results are not the game’s budget
Take-Two reported $6.72 billion in net bookings for fiscal 2026. That is a company-level operating metric, not the amount spent developing GTA VI. A publisher’s total bookings can include business across its portfolio and should not be attributed to one game. Take-Two’s official investor releases report company financial information, not a GTA VI-specific production budget.

Is GTA 6’s retail price its development cost?
No. Take-Two’s pre-order announcement lists US consumer prices of $79.99 for the base game and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Those are prices buyers pay, not the cost of making the game. Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick has described the resources behind ambitious games, but his remarks do not disclose GTA VI’s budget. In an interview with Bloomberg, he said: “We try to give them unlimited financial, creative human resources and then they aim to deliver perfection.” GameSpot also reported his comments that development costs have “gone up and up” and that creating the “highest quality entertainment on Earth” is “costly.” Those statements speak to the expense of high-end game development generally, not a specific dollar amount for GTA VI.
