1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteClear a Trial Chamber by defeating the waves from its active Trial Spawners, collecting the rewards they eject, and using the right key on each Vault: Trial Keys open standard Vaults, while Ominous Trial Keys open Ominous Vaults. The Ominous route is optional and harder; it is not required to finish the standard challenges.
How Trial Chambers work
Trial Chambers are underground, procedurally generated structures containing combat rooms, traps, mobs, Trial Spawners, and loot. Their room order and spawner enemy selections vary, so there is no single route or fixed enemy sequence to follow. Move through the rooms deliberately and respond to each spawner that activates.
A Trial Spawner activates when a player comes within 14 blocks and produces mobs in limited waves until its challenge is exhausted, according to Mojang’s Trial Spawner guide. Once completed, it ejects rewards and then enters a cooldown of about 30 minutes. Breaking a spawner is not a shortcut: Mojang says it takes a long time to break and does not drop as loot.
How to clear a Trial Chamber
- Advance room by room. Watch for Trial Spawners activating as you approach, and be ready for different enemy types. Mojang’s Tricky Trials overview and the Java 1.21 release notes describe melee, small-melee, and ranged spawner categories; the specific selection can vary by chamber.
- Defeat the active waves before moving on. Keep dealing with the mobs spawned by that challenge until the spawner is exhausted. Its ejected rewards can include a Trial Key, but the official materials do not promise a key from every ordinary spawner.
- Collect the rewards. Pick up any items ejected by the completed spawner before continuing. The spawner then waits through its roughly 30-minute cooldown.
- Repeat for other active challenges. Because layouts and enemy mixes vary, use the rooms and spawners you encounter rather than expecting a predetermined route.
- Use Trial Keys at standard Vaults. Find a Vault and use a Trial Key on it to claim its reward, subject to your individual claim opportunity for that Vault.
Account for the enemy mix
Do not depend only on arrows or other projectiles if a Breeze is present: Mojang describes the Breeze as immune to projectiles. The mace’s smash attack is another combat option, but it works by landing a hit while falling, with greater fall distance making the hit stronger. These are mechanics-based considerations, not a guaranteed best weapon or loadout.

How to get a Trial Key and open a standard Vault
Trial Keys can be among the rewards from completing Trial Spawner challenges. Use a Trial Key on a standard Vault; it is not interchangeable with an Ominous Trial Key. A Vault provides an individual chance to claim its reward: Mojang’s Trial Key guide says, “Each player gets their own chance to unlock a vault, and get loot of their own.”
That individual claim rule matters in multiplayer. If one player has already claimed a particular Vault’s reward, another player who has not claimed from that Vault can still use their own opportunity. A player cannot claim from the same Vault again after using their chance.

Standard and Ominous Vaults compared
| Path | Challenge | Required key | How to earn the key | Vault and reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Standard Trial Spawner challenges | Trial Key | May be among rewards from completing Trial Spawner challenges | Standard Vault; each player has an individual claim opportunity |
| Ominous | Optional, harder Ominous Trial challenges | Ominous Trial Key | May be ejected after defeating an Ominous Trial Spawner | Ominous Vaults are harder to find and have a more valuable reward set |
How to attempt Ominous Trials and open Ominous Vaults
Ominous Trials are an optional higher-difficulty path. Having Bad Omen from an Ominous Bottle can convert nearby Trial Spawners to ominous trials. These challenges can include mobs with equipment and additional hazards. Defeating an Ominous Trial Spawner may eject an Ominous Trial Key; use that key on an Ominous Vault, not a standard Vault. Mojang’s Ominous Trial Key guide covers the key and its matching Vault.
The Java snapshot 24w13a notes recorded a 30% Ominous Trial Key ejection chance for that snapshot. That is a snapshot-specific figure, not a universal current drop rate. The Java and Bedrock 1.21 release notes document the shared core loop of Trial Keys for standard Vaults, Ominous Trial Keys for Ominous Vaults, and spawner cooldown after rewards; edge-case details may differ by edition or version.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Using the wrong key: Trial Keys are for standard Vaults; Ominous Trial Keys are for Ominous Vaults.
- Assuming every spawner guarantees a key: keys are possible rewards, not an established guaranteed drop from each ordinary challenge.
- Expecting one fixed chamber route: the structure is procedurally generated, and rooms and enemy selections vary.
- Trying to break a completed spawner for loot: Mojang says breaking it does not make it drop.
- Treating the Ominous path as mandatory: it is an optional harder challenge, distinct from standard chamber clearing.
For play beyond the 1.21 documentation, check the mechanics for your specific edition and version; avoid assuming snapshot probabilities apply to a later release.
